Those of you who have been eagerly awaiting a new Final Fantasy will have to wait, as today Square Enix has announced a revamp of the classic 7th title for PC. Featuring a few additions to the game, it seems this reboot of the hit franchise is giving PC players a chance to enjoy the game without fiddling with emulators.
Whether you’re a seasoned FINAL FANTASY VII veteran or exploring this RPG classic for the very first time, show off your in-game accomplishments and put your gaming skills to the test with 36 brand new achievements to unlock. Share your profile with friends online to find out who is the ultimate FINAL FANTASY fan.

Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.
As well as the achievements and character boosting, players will also find the game utilises cloud saving (no not the actual Cloud), allowing you to access your saves on any computer. Square Enix haven't said whether the title will be on any other distribution bar their own, but hopefully in this modern age there will be more choice. No release date has been announced yet besides a "coming soon" on the official website.

For more info, check out the debut trailer below or head over to the official website for a full run-down of character bio's and more.

There was a PC version of FF7 when it was released though..

I wonder why they've done this - sounds like a cash grab.

As far as it looks - its the same game they released years ago, with a way to change (buy?) stat increases, save games online and unlock achievements.

I really do wish they would re-do this game, but by re-do it I mean revamp the graphics, dont attempt to alter the storyline in any huge way, keep the same music but make it amazing instead of midi quality !

It's amazing how few games journalists seem to be aware that this game has been on PC for a very long time. They even sold it in Australia, I have the discs in a box under the bed.

The game actually ran poorly and had many more bugs than the console version. Also i'm having trouble getting it to run at all on x64 windows. So a rerelease, isn't totally unwelcome if they fix it and the graphics.

It looks like they haven't done much though from that trailer.

This just shows how out of touch squareEnix is with its customers.

from Sankaku Complex, which I loled at.

As previously detailed, a low spec PC is all that is needed to enjoy PSX-era FF7 with the addition of cheats, cloud saves and achievements.

Whilst the opportunity to lose saves to a server problem rather than merely due to a local hard drive failure is sure to be valued, the lack of graphical improvements or other enhancements (and amongst Japanese fans, the absence of a Japanese release) has led to some disappointment…

The only platform where I can still play the game and not get put off by the visuals is on psp. Actually it still looks decent when playing on the psp's tiny screen.

i still love the old visuals. i would like to see a HD remake though. according to SE, that won't happen until they make another FF game that is as well received as FF7 was.

I concur, i thought it was a perfect game for that platform and ran brilliantly. I actually bothered to kill every weapon and finish all the little side questy bits, like go through everyone's deep storylines and put highscores in gold saucer.

PSPFFVII using popsloader or whatever it was back then was great.

Although i think they officially released it via some store too.. but not sure..

Yep, if you login to the psn via your psp you can get them legitimately. Means forking out another $15 per title though but I eventually caved in. Currently playing through ff8 on psp.

And I fear they are going down the same road that Michael Jackson did, in that they made such an epic blockbuster in their genre so soon, that they spent/will spend the rest of their life trying to get another one that good, which won't happen. So rule out a HD FF7 remake because square don't really care about the fans. If they did, there would of been one already since it's the only FF game everyone is begging for, and have been for years.

I think there's still a lot of love out there for FF6. It'd be cool to see them do an HD remake of a 2D final fantasy a la the SNES era.

FF versus looks like it has the same feel of FF7, but they haven't really released much info on it.

At the end of the day FF fans have hyped up 7 so much that nothing will ever compare...

IMO crisis core was better then 7.

I never even finished past disc 1 on FF7. I've tried multiple times but never done it . The only FF game i've ever finished was 10.

I remember the Tech Demo did in 2005 to show off the PS3. I think there are still petitions floating around from then demanding they do the rest of the game

Final Fantasy 10 was the game that started my departure from the series. The first 2 or 3 hours of the game consisted of like 15 minutes of actual gameplay. F*** that s***. I gave them another chance with FFXII, but that's still just sitting there unfinished, and I don't see myself ever picking that up again.

I never finished FF9, but only because I didn't own a PSX at the time. It was the last FF game that I really enjoyed though (apart from Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube, but I don't think that really counts).

FF10 was a piece of s***.

FF7 was my favourite, followed by FF9, FF12, FF6 & then FF8 in that order.

I didnt play much of FF10 at all. True piece of s*** IMO.

FF10 was awesome. it was the last FF game that was truly amazing. all the others since then have been meh.

Yeah, FFX was pretty much the first Final Fantasy I played, and I didn't like it at all, the game lost my interest by about half way through.

Then I thought I'd give them another chance and got Final Fantasy 13, and I gave up on that too. Apparently it gets good after 20 hours or so, but what the f***, what sort of retarded game is that where it doesn't get good till you're 20 hours in.
