Not that expectations were high for the game based on the popular movie franchise, but the first in-game look at Fast & Furious Crossroads from developer Slightly Mad Studios is a little rough. In that outside of the voice acting from Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson reprising their Furious characters, the visuals are bland, flat, and just... bad.
But, in terms of action it does look different enough to a straight up Need For Speed-style action-racer. The story mode looks to be a fast-paced and improbable action-affair taking on large tanks, obstacles, and armoured vehicles with gadgets.
Check it out.
The Fast & Furious Crossroads story mode expands the Fast & Furious universe—with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson reprising their roles as Dom, Letty, and Roman in an action-packed adventure set across stunning global locations, including Athens, Barcelona and Morocco. Joining the cast are Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, The Walking Dead) and Asia Kate Dillon (Billions, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum). Fast & Furious Crossroads puts players in the driver’s seat of the non-stop cinematic-style action of the Fast & Furious franchise.
Weirdly, it looks like the sort of half-assed tie-in that would be full of voices from actors doing their best Vin Diesel and co impressions. With the star-studded cast no doubt this is a big-budget affair. With Fast & Furious being one of the hottest movie properties, who knows it may turn out to be quite good. And Slightly Mad is the studio behind the well-received Project CARS series so there's that.
Fast & Furious Crossroads will be out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on August 7.
