Ubisoft has let loose details on what it'll take to bring Far Cry 3's luscious jungle to its visual peak on desktops, with minimum and maximum specs for their forthcoming open-world shooter.
The bare minimum to get by is:
- Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 or 3.00 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ or better
- RAM: 4 GB
- Video Card: 512 MB DirectX 9.0-compliant card with Shader Model 4.0 or higher
On the top-end of that scale though, you'll need the following to get the most out of the game:
- Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K or AMD FX-4150 or better
- RAM: 8 GB
- Video Card: 1024 MB DirectX 11-compliant card with Shader Model 4.0 or higher
It's not as clear-cut as that though, and thankfully the team has also offered up their own recommended specs (basically mid-range), to get you going:
- Processor: Intel Core i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X2 565 or better
- RAM: 6 GB
- Video Card: 1024 MB DirectX 11-compliant card with Shader Model 4.0 or higher
Interestingly, they've also given examples of minimum, recommended and high-end hardware beyond what's mentioned above. Minimum examples are any of the following: NVidia GTX8800, Intel Core2 Duo E6700, AMD Radeon HD2900, AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+. Recommended examples are: NVidia GTX480, Intel Core i3-530, AMD Radeon HD5770 and AMD Phenom II X2 565. And finally, the high-end hardware examples are: NVidia GTX680, Intel Core i7-2600K, AMD Radeon HD7970 and AMD Bulldozer FX4150.
Which set-up will you be running the game on?

They would appear to be either shipping both 32 bit & 64 bit executables for the PC or fibbing on the RAM requirements (more than likely the former).

Apart from tessellation from what I google the GTX590 is still a little faster than any of the 6-series cards? (single for single)
I don't keep up with this stuff enough and I may be bad at interpretation of results
