While not officially available yet, Ubisoft has today revealed their launch trailer for the hotly anticipated open-world first-person shooter Far Cry 3, running in at just shy of 10 minutes long.

Featuring an introductory into just what you can expect from the tropical island adventure, the launch trailer is narrated by one of the first friendly faces you see, Dennis. With a wealth of danger on the island, including tigers and bears, it's safe to say you'll need the knowledge before diving in.
In this savage paradise where lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing, players will dictate when, where and how the events of the game unfold. Players will slash, sneak, detonate and shoot their way across the island in a world that has lost all sense of right and wrong.

From a massive and living open world and a gripping storyline to standalone Coop and Multiplayer modes, Far Cry 3 is going to bring you hours and hours of fun and discoveries.

Welcome to the Rook Islands: shoot first, ask direction later.
Ubisoft has also revealed a critical day 1 patch (1.01) for PC is now available for download, which you can find locally here. The patch notes include fixes to multiplayer, co-op and singleplayer, which you can find over here.

ahead of the release tomorrow,

It's already out on steam. Had a quick bash this morning, looks pretty amazing. Runs really well on my PC too, even maxed out in DX11. I immediately noticed some parallels with AC3, the hunting and sidequesting stuff, but it seems like FC does a better job of integrating these systems into the game than AC.

Khel, just buy a key from CJS and acquire a copy of Far Cry 3 elsewhere, its what I did with Assassin's Creed 3.

Also, this game man. That intro and the first drug trip were amazing.

Don't use CJS (or any non steam version)- get the steam copy... I got the nonsteam copy and it was such a f*** around with uplay, patching it manually and then getting uplay to actually recognise that it was installed on my computer.

Honestly - pay the +$30 for it on steam -.-

Really? All I did was install the game, it launched Uplay asking for a CD Key and away it went. I did have to install the Day One patch myself, but it seems to keep itself up-to-date, especially with Assassin's Creed 3.

Maybe I just had bad luck but I had a few problems

Extraction of install files put them in a temp directory which disappeared without running the setup
Had to re-extract them
Direct X update failed
Run Uplay, create an account - had to wait 5 minutes for confirmation email
Open Uplay - no far cry 3
Had to run farcry 3 exe to get uplay to recognise it
Run FC3 through uplay "unable to patch"
restart it all - patch got to 50% - unable to patch - click here to play - CAN'T PLAY WITHOUT PATCH
manually download and install patch

While it works now - it was a huge pain compared to steam

$40 cheapest steam key it seems. Didnt look into it much but it seems non steam keys arent much cheaper.

pretty sure the steam version will still require uplay. the AC games do.

Cheers Davo, picked it up from that cdkey warehouse place from that link, for $51. Was a bit dodgy cos it was listed as $46 but they listed it without GST, but I'm still happy with $50, thats all I would have got it for if the VPN thing worked anyway.

No problems bro. I use http://cdkeyprices.com/ All the time to compare prices although as you said, the prices can vary once you get to the site depending on the version and a number of factors.

Its great to keep an eye on for when games drop in price $5-10 if you are into waiting a little while for savings. Tight ass i know.

I assume you got the deluxe version @ that price as the basic version is $40 but you are correct, it seems they dont add GST til you go to purchase.

I just bought it from: https://cdkeys.com.au/products/Far-Cry-3.html

Prices listed without GST. Standard Edition for Steam = $40 + 10% GST = $44. Really not a fan of Day 1 DLC, hence avoiding the deluxe pack. Awaiting cdkey ...

Mine crashes when I try to leave the ESC menu, and am currently at the first crafting mission which shows nothing in the crafting menu. Can't patch as it says can't retrieve version number and aborts. Steam and the game files are on a secondary HDD dunno if thats whats stopping the patch from recognising. Any help with getting this working before the weekend would be great.

*EDIT* - Still can't patch, but putting it in offline mode fixes the crashing.

graphics - 7/10
gunplay - 10/10
navigating the in game menu is s*** 3/10 and you need to a lot to craft health and ammo.
and to interact with anything like jumping in a vehicle or skinning a animal you have to hold E for a sec, because you use it so often its really f***** annoying.
guess thats what happens with console ports.
its a shame it has the potential to be a great game but it to clunky with all the controls, console noobs proberly wouldn't notice
i would still recommend it if you liked far cry 2
oh and you have to run it through steam then through uplay just to get in.....f*****g ghey
also turn the s*** music off and crack up your sound, the guns and gun fights sound good.

Probably best to post your graphics settings (resolution, "overall quality" level chosen (high/ultra), AA level, shadows, etc) if you want your opinion of the graphics to be taken seriously :)

I finished downloading the "demo" version until my copy arrives next week. I will post how it works for me and if I encounter any issues.

same here, wanted to know how this would run on my system before I throw cash down so i get good support.

ok so ive played about 10 mins and 2 mains things:
The graphics are crazy, straight up (using HBAO method). Its one of the best looking games I have ever played. My oc'd i7 930 @ 4.0ghz and oc'd 5970 can not keep up with this even on high (not ultra) with NO AA. My max frame rate is about 45fps. The speech animations could be better but no biggy. I have noticed a few rare clipping errors with minor stuff but nothing major.

The menu is a total pain in the ass but I guess its something to get used to.

Otherwise it its pretty solid. Im considering getting a new graphics card just to keep up with this. Apparently its AMD optimised so i might need another 5970. Does AMD have any newer dual GPU cards?

running i7 960, gtx670 OC, everything maxed, 32" 1980x1080 MSAA AA off, getting 52-60fps. it looks good in all the vids and maybe if your playing on a smaller screen?
it just doesn't look right, just cause 2 looks better landscape wise and thats getting on a bit now. just played a bit more and its just some areas look crap ie some rocks/cliffs just look very consoley
if your playing on a console then yes i agree it looks good but as much on pc imo.
maybe ive played too much bf3, i think i just expected it to blow me away considering all the vids leading up to it were all on consoles. plus i started playing this like its a FPS but its more of a mix RPG/FPS
Thanks Erol, i turned that off straight away anyway, not getting any lag its just how the menu is set up i think.
serious :/

Configure uplay to run in offline mode whenever it's started - had the same issue but not since configuring it to run in offline mode every time.

joe are you using the HBAO ambient occlusion instead of the SAAO or whatever else it has?

if you are it will make it look bf3 similar to bf3, also this is optimised for AMD cards, so you may be missing out with nvidia.

honestly on my setup it looks just as good as bf3 if not better in some areas and other things not as good.

So with the cdkeys.com.au site, they just send you a Steam gift by email after 5-10 hours. Mine came through last night.

From the sounds of it, they probably have a russian or other country's Steam account and keep buying cheaper region copies within steam and gifting them. I'm not sure how they are getting away with it, as Steam generally blocks you from buying more than a couple of copies of a particular game without manual unblocking by their staff. Perhaps they have throw-away accounts and VISA cards or something to get around this restriction.

Yeah, thats the one I used too parabol and I got it last night after ordering during the day. Quite happy with the service, they even had a post on their Facebook page apologising for delays processing Far Cry 3 and I posted a response just to double check that my order had gone through properly (cos I wasn't sure) and got a reply pretty much straight away.

i wonder what the threshold is, because many people purchase multiple copies of games to use for trading.

I hear something now about un-parking your cores if you have a quad core CPU. I am not too sure what its about, Something about the program making use of your 3 other cores more. There is a thread on the Planetside 2 forums about it.

arh 10 min post edit limit is fail.

anyway after playing for maybe 5 hours tonight and im quite frustrated with this game. endless graphical bugs now, its WAY too easy even on the hardest difficulty, the menu thing is beyond a joke now, i must have pushed the esc key at least 500 times during the game, the weapon selection is straight off console and it really relly feels like im playing a console game on my pc.

The beta version of the nvidia drivers + turning MSAA off + dropping post-fx from Very High to High + dropping water from Very High to High did the trick for me. For me I just had to reach a minimum FPS to get rid of the microstutters ...

The menu system is very annoying. Why have crafting/inventory, etc in the same menu as Save/Quit. It's so cluttered. Plus there are soooooooooo many hints in the came that you have to Esc, Esc, Esc, Esc, Esc out of.

Finding the game fun otherwise. It's pretty much assassin's creed on an island (a range of takedown types + tower climb for map reveal + quick-descend tower similar to a leap of faith).
Dazhel
Posted 05:13pm 02/12/12
Yeah, the game itself is great despite the ridiculous UI system.

You've got a radial menu for guns, a system menu 10 layers deep for your inventory and crafting, a weird combo between checkpoint and save system and every other thing is slowed down by a silly push and hold a key to interact with it.
Did the UX designers at Ubisoft Montreal get downsized or something?

Complete Nvidia fix for microstutter that I can work out.

Nvidia control panel --> Manage 3d Settings --> Farcry3.exe --> Vsync set to 'adaptive' --> Turn vsync off in farcry 3.

Running 1920x1080 DX11/Max everything I can.

Was having stuttering and microstuttering issues until doing this, hasn't missed a beat now.
