Because its Pokemon. So naturally, it kind of blew up. Created by a team of fans over a nine year period, and featuring a cast of 150 new Pokemon, the strangely titled Pokemon Uranium has been taken down after its PC debut last week. Naturally, lawyers representing Nintendo and The Pokemon Company were quick to react to the unauthorised game, with the developers removing the download links shortly thereafter.

Having been the labour of love for a number years for its creators ~JV~ and Involuntary Twitch, this wasn't a cheap knock-off to cash in on the resurgent popularity of Pokemon. It represents an alternate take on the franchise and traditional Game Boy presentation with a new area to explore and many new Pokemon to catch.

Here's a glimpse at what it looks like.

As you can see, it looks very cool. But with Nintendo gearing up to release Pokemon Sun and Moon later this year, we can understand why it was taken down so quickly.

Still bewilders me how people think they'll get away with using someone else's IP. Surely you'd know they'll come after you if you do something idiotic like using their brand names.
