Because boy-o-boy, it looks insanely good. Like you didn't know that already! And with the release of Fallout 4 just days away this launch trailer actually goes into some of the themes and story beats in the game. So yeah, some of it is definitely spoiler-ish so you may want to hold off. That's, only if you can. As it's all set to a collage of evocative vistas and footage of both male and female protagonist's walking through the wasteland, with dramatic music and narration, once you press play -- you're in for the duration.
Clocking in at under three minutes this is a great way to get in the mood for what is shaping up to be the biggest game release of 2015. Not long to go now! And yeah sure, I've said that before but, you know, it's Fallout!
If you want photo realism, step outside and look at the sun. This argument is getting old and is just being used now as trolling (so yes, I took the bait, fanboi alert)

Nothing to do with photo-realism, s*** animations are s*** animations.
I thought the same thing too Nerf in some of the bits in that trailer, mostly when it was crowds of people running and stuff, so maybe they just didn't put as much time into the animations for random NPCs or somethig. But it reminds me of old s***** pre-Skyrim Bethesda animations where nothing really had weight to it and was all floaty and people ran like they had a stick up their arse.
Not that I guess it matters, I'll still play the s*** out of it, but I was expecting a little better.

Pretty sure that's a T1000 at 2:18.

Christ. Not having uncritical views is now trolling, according to new account with 9 posts. Seems I either poked a hornets nest of insecure fans or the PR department for this game.
My favourite game is Mount & Blade Warband, ftr, which looks like ass. It's also hella cheap and had no budget behind it, and now with their success they're making huge strides for the sequel.
In fact the more I think about it, the more I get the impression that something is clearly wrong at Bethesda HQ, with being unable to get somebody away from control of animation. Those character animations look like ass. I can think of 12 year old games which look better. I've done better in random 3d animation jobs without any education or proper history in the field. I can't think of any full price release from the last few years which looks remotely like that.
Is it actually able to be preloaded now? I haven't got my key yet, is there a way to download the preload without having a key registered? I'm sure I've done that for a game in the past, but I can't really remember how or when.

The T1000 is the liquid metal Terminator, that one would be a T800 or one of its variants. Learn to fanboy.

God, my f*****g friends are like this over FO4. You can't be critical of it AT ALL or they flip their s*** and start to get all uppity and try to justify everything. One friend is saying it's going to look better on PC. I highly doubt it. Bethesda have been getting away with s***** animations for far too long, and will keep doing it so long as people preorder their games.
Old graphics engine looks old and s***. Pretty disappointing really, but still, sure it'll be an awesome game and I'll play the s*** out of it. Love Fallout. Have to say the story doesn't grip me that much either though.
The fanatic ignorance of the poor graphics is pretty amusing.
Edit: I'm comparing it to F3 (it looks the same, no real advancements), and other new games like FarCry 4, Witcher 3, etc. This isn't a pessimistic view I don't think, rather a objective one, it's pretty clear the graphics engine isn't new or of the same quality as other new games (just look at the CryEngine for Pete's sake). Painting it as just overly pessimistic griping to defend the game as a whole despite it's obviously poor graphics is initself a very biased view. A thing is composed of parts, some of those parts can be critiqued whilst still appreciating the overall thing. It's really not that complicated guys, I think you're Fallout fanaticism is getting in the way of your logic and reasoning.

Not yet, at least I can't see the preload on my steam preorder
if youre looking at it with pessemistic eyes and groaning that its no better in terms of gfx-fi or animation than something like Rage then what are you comparing it to?
Yeah it looks like a typical pile of Bethesda ass but considering the minimum requirements announced for the latest Assassins Creed game is like 1 step below my PC I'm kinda ok with it.
That said smooth and realistic animations shouldn't really affect performance and anyone who says Bethesda isn't the absolute worst in the industry when it comes to animations is blind. Remember the dump jumps in Skyrim that made your character look like they were taking a mid air dump?
its not like theyre trying to convince us that theyre taking us beyond the uncanny valley
They don't have to convince us its real, but it would be nice if they at least tried to convince us the world wasn't populated by animatronic mannequins.
This is funny to me because I've always been very critical of Bethesda games for looking like total s***, with Fallout 4 I feel like they have made an effort to address this and so I'm pretty pleased with it.
As for the animations, I didn't notice them being sub-par until you guys pointed it out, I guess I've set the bar low for Bethesda, at least in regards to visuals.
I've just spent the last 200 hours being spoiled by the Witcher 3 and its expansion - it's going to taste really sour stepping down to these character animations.
The environments look spectacular, no complaints there. Just same old-Bethesda characters. *sigh*
Just finished my Steam pre load. I cant wait. Gotta go to EB tomorrow night to grab my sons Pip Boy edition and another hard copy, then straight home to play Fallout 4. If you are at EB tomorrow night we will be the - old fart with two teenagers wearing the collectors' edition Fallout Four T-shirts I got sent over from Bethesda! Come say hi!

You are aware there is more than one EB in Brisbane don't you?
I rarely preorder anymore, but some games I know I'm going to get, irrespective of reviews or launch day bugs or whatever; fallout 4 is one of those. So when gmg did a 25% off voucher for it I figured, may as well get it cheaper since I'm going to get it anyway, then I can have it preloaded and ready to play when it comes out.
That was the logic I used for Thief 4, was cheaper pre-release before Australian value got added, and there was a 25% discount or something, and Thief is my favourite series so even a meh addition I'd probably get.
Turned out better than expected once I got past the awful first few levels. Though I was apparently part of only 1% of players who did it with the xray vision etc disabled from the start for extra points or whatever, which probably made it way better due to having to actually think. Downside was that you had to do like 3 missions to afford a rope arrow on hard and they weren't recyclable.
Are you saying Thief 4 actually gets decent? I didn't get past the first or second level, it was so s***. I love Thief though, maybe I should persevere. Are there any mods or patches fixing some of the more annoying bits? I remember searching containers was a ball ache.
Tanaka Khan..Yeh thanks for the heads up. I thought I mentioned it was Indro. Where would we be without vigilante forum monitors like you hey?
It's not like I have anything better to do... I'll be at the Underwood EB picking up my copy. The stupid thing is they want us there between 10pm and 11:30pm to confirm the orders then we get them after midnight.
Yep that's what Indro told me as well. Pay the balance on the games between 10pm and midnight, they give you a number and then at midnight they call out the numbers and you get your stuff. Its irritating because I have to go up there to get the Pip Boy for my son and all the while I am there the game will be sitting on my computer pre-loaded waiting for me to get home and click play! arrghh the irony.
Whats even more worrying is that they didn't seem to have a plan to serve pre orders first or separate them from punters who are turning u p to buy the game cold..which I do think is a bit disorganised. Surely they could have a pre orders line and a first in first served retail purchase line?? I pre ordered this s*** months ago and I want to go first dammit!
Part of me is thinking just f*** it and rock up 9am Tuesday morning and get it, When I start playing I don't want to have to go to bed after an hour or two.
"Part of me is thinking just f*** it and rock up 9am Tuesday morning and get it, When I start playing I don't want to have to go to bed after an hour or two."
That's what my eldest boy is saying he will do, he is still coming to get his Pip Boy, but just heading home for a sleep, then serious gaming.
Ah the joys of being retired, got all day to play, wife's away in Perth for three days, bar fridge is full, sleep when I want, game when I want...:
Whats really pissing me off is that I just read that due to time difference the digital version I have on Steam may be available to play around 9-10pm! EST...and I'm going to be at bloody Indro! grrrr That's an unconfirmed report though but its being bandied about as accurate.

If played on the hardest setting, as a big fan of the originals who will get the extraordinarily vague hints about how this one ties in (particularly towards the end), then there's some things enjoyable about it, far from perfect though (the jimmying windows mechanic has to be the worst thing, especially since you never know if it's going to send you into a new loading zone or not). The early levels have a few weird points of no return, so it's helpful to save a lot.
One of the main benefits were the story explanations for anybody who is a long time fans of the old ones. There's a reason that they refused to call it a reboot in the pre-release interviews, yet the character has a different voice and the city looks different. They were way too subtle about it to actually benefit from what they did.
I just hope my copy arrives tomorrow. Apparently, even on the disc, it only has 5gb of the install on it.....why the hell are they doing that? save money? Would be nice if publishers put games on blu ray discs.

At least they aren't just putting a code in the box like metal gear solid did.

Maybe they put all the focus into the female protag for that 'knew exactly what they were doing' shot at the end though, so I can't blame them.

yeah it's pretty damn noticeable in the leaked footage. this almost looks last gen when you have games like the witcher to compare it to.

Bethesda really have to sort out their animation department. Seriously, it's probably one of the biggest overhanging issues of all their games.
