Elden Ring is a massive game, and if the discourse is anything to go by it'll probably be the most talked about game of 2022. As per our (also massive) in-depth review in progress, "From Software may have delivered the last game you'll ever need". So it's good to see that Patches and updates are coming in thick and fast.

Elden Ring Patch 1.02 dropped over the launch weekend and it brought a number of updates to the game, including addressing network issues players were experiencing on the Xbox version. Plus, some frame-rate improvements.
  • Improved player controls
  • Addition and adjustment of BGM
  • Text adjustments
  • Balance adjustments
  • NPC event fixes and adjustments
  • Fixed frame rate drops under certain conditions
  • Fixed text bug in some languages
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Xbox wireless headset from working properly
  • Online issues Xbox users have been facing (e.g. "Network Status Check Failed") should now be fixed

  • Good stuff, and no doubt more patches are incoming. That said, the hope for many out here is PC performance and the general stability of the PC port getting addressed. As per this Digital Foundry report titled 'Elden Ring PC Performance Simply Isn't Good Enough', no matter your hardware (Joab's review in-progress for AusGamers was played on a beefy GeForce RTX 3080) massive frame-drops and stutters are everywhere in the PC version. Not to mention the frame-rate being locked to 60fps and there being no native support for UltraWide displays.

This is not to say that Elden Ring is unplayable on PC, it just could use some care and attention. Especially because we're talking about a definite Game of the Year contender.
