The latest Kickstarter videogame campaign piquing interests is a cops versus robbers multiplayer first person shooter from a new indie studio calling themselves Elastic Games.

The dev-team boasts ex-employees from the likes of Ubisoft, Epic Games, Electronic Arts, and Crytek with games such as Far Cry 3, Gears Of War, Crysis 1/2, Assassin's Creed 2, Medal Of Honor: Airborne, Golden Eye, Killzone 2, and Grand Theft Auto 4 on their CVs and the story behind their proposal is a rather peculiar one.

A couple of months back, a "fan made" video surfaced on Youtube, offering a mock-up pitch for a game called Call of Duty: Police Warfare -- a fictional addition to Activision's Call of Duty franchise that focused on cops versus robbers style battles in the vein of the movie Heat.

It's unclear whether the team originally intended to pitch their idea to Activision, or just used the Call of Duty moniker to get people's attention, but with the launch of their new Kickstarter project and the reveal that they've actually been working on the game for the past seven months, none of that really matters. The Call of Duty references have been dropped and Police Warfare now intends to stand on its own concept:
Imagine a game that draws inspiration from the large scale, multiplayer experience of a title such as Battlefield 3, and combines it with the cops and robbers style of Grant Theft Auto and HEAT. Welcome to POLICE WARFARE; a multiplayer first person shooter set in the world of armed robbery and law enforcement. Players will go toe-to-toe as either a member of the Los Angeles Police SWAT team, or the opposite side of the law, robbing banks as an armed gunman.

There are a lot of shooters out there focusing on modern military conflicts and we want to bring things in a new direction, something fresh and different, draw the focus of a conflict closer to home with a different type of enemy. We're building a game similar to Battlefield 1943 in that it's a small but extremely high quality shooter built for digital download. Our focus is crafting a big experience in a small package, a bite-sized AAA if you will. Something that you can pick up and play for just a few minutes and have the same great experience as if you're sinking hundreds of hours into it.
Watch the Kickstarter pitch video below, click here to see the original Call of Duty mock-up video and head over to the Kickstarter page if this sounds like something you'd be interested in.

Wow, I just watched the 'fan-made' pitch.
The editing and whole production of that trailer doesn't make it appear amateurish at all.

Not sure I'd play the game tho... Rainbow 6: Raven Shield was a pretty awesome game for that sorta stuff and I didn't play tonnes of that :/

This could work really well with the concept alone. A Battlefield 3 + Cops and Robbers would be pretty awesome. and they've already got a lot done, so you can see they really are eager to develop it.

Why is it Call of Duty-esque when it's more Battlefield 3-esque? I think its a mad idea, original and creative.

still cant get my head around putting money into something that 'might' get made. What if they go broke, run of with the cash, never finish the game. I dont buy every game that comes on the market I look at videos, often have played other games from the same developers etc.

cant wait to see it finished, then ill buy in, same for wasteland (excited about that prospect)

That wont be an issue for six months at least when games don't get finished and everyone realises kickstarter has a 10% success rate, but for now its all sunshine and roses.

Reminds me of payday the heist but with versus multiplayer instead of against bots.

Sounds kind of awesome having a team of cops and team of robbers and if the robbers actually have to go break into some building by doing actual recon to find out some code to disable the alarm or whatever and both teams have to work together respectively to get their jobs done.

if, however, it's just 2 teams staring off on opposite ends of the map (good guys outside bad guys inside) and you're just thrown into the middle of the gun battle I think I'll pass.
