It seems the Mass Effect series is finally going into space according to USAToday, where EA are preparing to let off several weather balloons that have Mass Effect 3 attached to them.
Publisher Electronic Arts will be launching copies of the game into space using weather balloons that will be released in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris.

Each game has a GPS tracking device onboard and fans can track their return to the Earth on masseffect.com to find a copy and play it a week or more before the game hits stores. (Might not be a bad idea to follow @MassEffect, either.)
Sadly there isn't any weather balloons being sent from Australia, but who knows, maybe we might be lucky and it drifts over here. Hopefully no Reapers drift by and pick up a floating copy, would spell disaster for Earth.
Mass Effect 3 is out in stores and digital services March 6th for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Until then, you can check out the demo or float by our game page for more.

It's gonna be funny when one of these space copies ends up being the first uploaded to the interwebs.

It'll be hilarious if they all fall in the ocean

chances are that most of them will anyway khel.

Maybe this is the Mass Effect team doing something fun by letting off weather balloons and travelling to holiday destinations after all their hard work coding etc.

that'd be nice..

Yep, uploaded as a torrent for sure. The challenge would be to grab one in the air before anybody had a chance to grab it on the ground.

Now if they could recall all copies of Dragon Age 11, send them up on a balloon and then explode it somewhere over the ocean...all would again be good in the Biowareverse... ;)

Hopefully no Reapers decide to pick a copy up a earth person a chance to play the game early.

This makes no sense. Are you saying you hope reapers don't steal our copies? Or reapers don't steal us?

No I think what he means is that reavers could skin/rape the balloon and therefore we would have not chance in obtaining it. Although what would i know, I'm no reaver.

the real question is why they wait to march 6 if it is ready for release NOW. Also, isn't it March 8 in Australia?

So you're saying when the developers finalise the master copy for retail release, 10 million DVD boxed copies don't instantly appear in stores all around the world?

The mind boggles.

"Apparently balloon 1 is on a cliff somewhere or ontop of a Redwood," Silverman tweeted. "Please do not kill yourself for these."
