Confirming recent rumours, as expected at GDC 2012 today, Electronic Arts have revealed return to SimCity, the immensely popular and addictive urban planning strategy game from Maxis Studios.

The new game will feature an unprecedented depth in the level of simulation as well as a multiplayer mode that lets you cooperate with and play against friends with neighbouring cities.
The defining city simulation is back! Create the city you desire and make the choices that shape your city and power the Sims within it. Every decision, big or small, has real consequences. Invest in heavy industry and your economy will soar—but at the expense of your Sims’ health as pollution spreads. Implement green technology and improve your Sims’ lives while risking higher taxes and unemployment. Team up with your friends to solve global challenges: launch a space shuttle, reduce carbon emissions, or build magnificent wonders. Compete on global and regional leader boards to be the richest, the dirtiest, the happiest or the best place to visit!
Watch the debut trailer below ( or here for the HD page) and there's also an "inside look" trailer featuring developer commentary and an explanation of multiplayerright here. Sim City is headed for the PC and Mac in 2013.

Oh please don't let them mess this up like they did with the abomination that was Societies. Ever since they started making city builders in 3D they have been invariably s***, so it's been a while.

"Images not representative of actual gameplay".

sigh, Bullshots.

But looks awesome - can't wait. Argh, 2013? As long as it's actually 2013, not Spore-like 2013 (ie, 2019) culminating in mass disappointment.

I have such awesome memories of listening to Sigur Ros and playing SimCity 4 for days at a time getting stuff just right. That game is so goddamn morish. Would spend time ages building dozens of slum cities to take the garbage from all the rich folk. Get a job already ya povo's!

Nothing beats Rollercoaster Tycoon.

I could never get the hang of SimCity. Always ended up with dead towns or too much debt.
