Okay so for the most part the EA Play conference was, well, mostly terrible. Not in the games they had to talk about but in the ways in which they chose to do so. Talking about a game before a trailer? Yeah, the opposite of how it works for something we already know about. That being said, we're still super excited for Anthem. BioWare's shared world shooter that looks incredible.

Kicking things off, we get a new cinematic trailer to set the scene and tone of the next BioWare universe.

On a world left unfinished by the gods, humanity struggles to survive in a savage environment. Equipped with incredible Javelin exosuits, a faction known as the Freelancers seeks to tip the balance in mankind’s favor.

Freelancers! Very cool. After that EA then brought in key BioWare talent to answer some questions and then showcase some actual in-game footage of a mission. Which begins at the 13:20 minute mark below.

In addition to the damage numbers bouncing off of enemies in a very action-RPG fashion, we now that Anthem is indeed meant to be played co-operatively. Although hub worlds are treated as single-player story affairs where you can talk to characters and explore as you would in any BioWare RPG - the key difference here is that these people will not go on missions with you.

In terms of combat it all looks really solid, with four classes of Javelin (those being the mecha-suits) to choose from - all allowing for different styles of play. Oh, and BioWare has confirmed that the flying and underwater exploration is tied to a heat system which can be upgraded allowing for further travel.

We also now have a release date - February 22, 2019.
