Not only did we get confirmation that Assassin's Creed: Origins would be Egypt set but we also got a gameplay demonstration at Microsoft's E3 briefing earlier today -- showcasing the next Assassin's Creed in 4K. In addition to looking great the next Assassin's Creed is also switching things up with a new action-RPG approach, revamped combat, and redesigned HUD that reminds us of a certain old-timey scroll. An Elder Scroll.
Here's the gameplay demonstration taken from Microsoft's Xbox briefing -- running on the Xbox One X. As mentioned above, this is very much a new version of Assassin's Creed with an action-RPG approach that includes the usual levelling, deep item customisation, and loot that the genre is known for. But, it also means the removal of the mini-map in favour of an Elder Scrolls style compass that will track quests and points of interest. Yeah, quests. And an personal eagle that can mark enemies like a drone from a Tom Clancy game.
Assassin's Creed: Origins!
Also revamped is the game's combat system which now removes the auto-engage mechanics of the series for a more fluid and realistic approach. One that also paves the way for new weapons and systems based around weight, size, and so forth. It all looks fantastic, and we'll have more on the game in the coming days.
In the meantime be sure to check out this behind the scenes video from Ubisoft that lifts the lid on Assassin's Creed: Origins.
