With E3 around the corner the hype trains are fully stocked and running on schedule. One of the first to depart the hypothetical E3 Hype Station, in this increasingly complicated analogy, is the existence of Resident Evil 7. Oooh. Word has it we'll be getting our first look at Resident Evil 7 at next month's show. And, that this next entry in the long running franchise will go back to its horror roots.
Which is to say, that would be awesome. But coming from a Tokyo-based analyst and not a Capcom insider, we should probably be a little bit weary of getting too exited. Although as the reputable CEO of consultancy firm Kantan Game, Serkan Toto is known for not, well, being a imaginary game theorist. So his Twitter announcement that Resident Evil 7 is current "in development" and will be shown at E3, fills us with hope. So does the rumour that P.T and Metal Gear Solid 5 designer Jordan Amaro has been hired to work on the new game.
And even though Resident Evil of late has been given the remaster, re-release, and weird multiplayer team-shooter treatment, Capcom highlighted in its recent financial reporting that the company is planning a Resident Evil-themed "full-scale offensive" for the second half of this year.
Here's hoping that includes Resident Evil 7. If not, then we'll see you again next year.
