Nintendo didn't hold their traditional pre-E3 press conference in Los Angeles this year, instead opting for a live-streamed Nintendo Direct video presentation to share their new announcements and save some Yen. With only a quick glance at what they had to show, in the shadow of their competitor's megaton events, it's clear they made the right decision in not making a huge fuss, but there was still a few bits that will please Nintendo fans.
Click on through to our summary of the event for the highlights and the new trailers, or you can catch the full recorded Nintendo Direct presentation embedded below.
If there's one thing Nintendo know how to do, it's make gameplay videos that make you want to play a game.
While Mario Kart looks awesome, I worry that not enough people will have bought Wii Us that make online multiplayer even readily available, since there won't be enough people owning it - unlike when Mario Kart Wii came out. Since many of the games were hosted internationally, even that nice new NBN connection won't be of much help.
^ I think it'll be fine. You constantly play against people from Europe and Japan with Mario Kart 7 and it hardly hinders the play.
Wii U exclusive games coming before this year ends:
NSLU Pikmin 3 Wonderful 101 Wind Waker HD Bayonetta 2 Super Mario 3D World Sonic Lost World Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
That's more than enough to keep me happy. Wii U purchase definitely justified. I'll most likely jump on AC IV, Watchdogs, Deus Ex, Splinter Cell, Arkham Origins as well purely for Off TV play.
Yeah I'm tempted to grab seconds of all the multi-platforms purely for the off-screen TV play. That thing is just too handy. Also Smash Bros is looking mighty fine.
eski - I think you underestimate the popularity of New Super Mario Bros. The DS version sold over 30 million copies, and the Wii version sold over 25 million copies. By comparison, the combined sales for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are under 20 million copies.
A history of Mario game names, just off the top of my head:

Super Mario Bros 2 (NES)
Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
Super Mario Land (GB)
Super Mario Land 2 (GB)
Wario Land (Super Mario Land 3) (GB)
