While Ubisoft's E3 press conference was widely acknowledged to be one of the stronger presentations kicking off this year's show, one of the publisher's major upcoming titles was conspicuously absent.
Not Beyond Good and Evil 2, as that one's now rumoured to be a next-gen title, so we weren't expecting to see or hear much about that one. We're talking about Rainbow Six: Patriots, the tactically-themed first person shooter that Ubi revealed late last year with a
cinematic trailer and an intriguing
concept video, but has barely been heard of since.
Fans of Team Rainbow fear not however, as according to an
an IGN interview, the lights are still on for Patriots. Ubisoft Marketing VP Tony Key explains that "Rainbow 6 is still in active development but what we decided was that the best thing for the brand was to not bring it to the show right now".
When quizzed about whether the game had shifted to next-gen console development, IGN ambiguously quote Key as saying "This is the only generation that I know about, so I would assume yes.", which due to them not providing the full question for context, it's hard to derive whether that's a yes or no.
Rainbow 6: Patriots was originally slated for a 2013 release, but it's difficult to say how accurate that target might still be until we hear more.
