Bethesda has let loose details on when we'll exactly be playing the Doom reboot from id Software, accompanying the announcement with a brand-new campaign trailer.
May 13 is the lucky date, as the game will launch simultaneously on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. There's a premium collectors edition alongside a "Demon Multiplayer" pack, all of which you can learn about below:
The limited DOOM collector’s edition, created in conjunction with TriForce, includes an exclusive, fully-realized 12” tall collector’s statue of one of the game’s most iconic demons: the Revenant. Modeled from actual in-game 3D files and striking in appearance, the demonic Revenant stands on an LED-lit base with internal, slow-spinning turbine from the UAC facility on Mars. The DOOM collector’s edition also includes a copy of the game packaged in an exclusive, battle-worthy metal case.
The DOOM collector’s edition is available for pre-order through participating retailers and is priced at $119.99 (US), €129.99 (Europe), and £99.99 (UK). Players pre-ordering the DOOM collector’s edition or the standard edition of the game will receive the Demon Multiplayer Pack which contains a unique demon armour set with three skin variations, six metallic paint colours and three id® logo patterns that can be applied to weapons and armour, plus a set of six Hack Modules – one-time consumable items that can give you an edge in a multiplayer match.
id's games always look really visually impressive when they're released. This is probably the first time I've looked at an upcoming id game and been underwhelmed by the visuals.
Not judging the gameplay, it looks like it's a return to its roots after Doom 3, but yeah, makes me think id aren't the graphical powerhouse they were while Carmack was at the helm.
On a side note, it really bugs me more than it should starting a sentence with 'id' and not using capitals.
The whole gouging eyes, stomping heads and ripping jaws etc reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever and has actually left a sour taste in my mouth for Doom after watching this trailer... 0/10 not hyped for this game now.
Yeah, that stuff (at least from the trailers) feels like it slows the game a lot and is kinda disorienting when again and again back to back. Cinematic jazz and quick time events to grab the COD crowd I guess.
I dunno, not real sure at the mo. I am not real keen on the run twenty feet, shoot a baddie, watch the kill animation, run another twenty feet, kill a baddie, watch the kill animation...over and over> Seriously? I think that would make the game slow.
Maybe all the c******* console gumbies out there are use to these constant interruptions from pre-rendered bulls***, but not us elite PC gamers.
Doom to me was a fast paced horror FPS, this Doom definitely has the horror part of the gore down, but from this trailer it's missing the scariness of a horror and the fast paced movement.
I never really got into the Quake and Doom games. I actually expected this to be more dark, like Doom 3 but it's pretty bright. As other have stated the whole kill animation thing could be annoying after the 6-7th time.
99% of what made Doom great was multiplayer - not addressed at all in the trailer. So I have low expectations.
Some of that gameplay looked kind of fun but I suspect in terms of translation to MP it'll just feel a lot like Quake. Not that that's a bad thing, but I suspect that might not be enough to attract players.
They could get my interest with a multiplayer beta. In fact I think it would be absolute madness to NOT have an MP beta.
Lemme give you youngins a heads up....Uncle Trog was a villian with a railgun in Quake and Q2...a beast in Doom with just about anything in his mits...he knows of which he speaks.
:)
Oh god I am reminiscing already...s*** put me out to pasture!......as long as its a Lan in a timber shed.
So have any of you been following the DOOM videos or have you just seen this one?
This trailer looked incredibly bland compared to the other videos, most likely because that's what it'll look like on consoles or something.
The Multiplayer seems like it's going to be more like Quake and Unreal Tournament.
The kill animations are by player choice, so if you don't want to see them, you don't have to. It's like the X-Ray moves in Mortal Kombat (from what I've gathered anyway).

Also for those complaints: apparently you can disable death/kill animations in the options.
