Chalk this one up as a pleasant surprise, even though we've been waiting for it since it was announced that DOOM would be Xbox One X Enhanced late last year. Still a technical showcase on PC, and even on the Nintendo Switch, it's now time for the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro to, well, DOOM.
And DOOM like they were always meant to DOOM.
No word on what exactly the update entails, other than support for 4K, we can probably expect that at a bare minimum the sub-1080p image of the Xbox One version to be bumped up to native 4K. Which would be impressive in and of itself. Especially as DOOM runs at a rock solid 60fps.
Going by what we saw with Wolfenstein II on the Xbox One X, as it runs on the same id Tech 6 engine, we should expect dynamic resolution scaling or the PS4 Pro to push 1440p as opposed to the 4K of the Xbox One X.
The patch is listed as going live March 29, which probably means later tonight or tomorrow for AU.
