Revealed earlier today as part of a Nintendo Direct livestream, comes word that Bethesda and id Software are bringing both Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to Nintendo Switch. 2016's excellent Doom is due for release sometime this holiday season in 2017 with Wolfenstein II slated for 2018.

Getting to play Doom on a handheld, especially the brilliant Arcade Mode is the stuff of dreams so the only question to ask is how will it look. And with both Doom and Wolfenstein II running on id Tech 6 it will fascinating to see how the Switch handles a cutting edge first-person engine.

The announcement came as part of a huge Nintendo Direct which you can watch below. The Bethesda announcements come at the 24:30 mark, including confirmation that Skyrim is coming November 17.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is still on track for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 27.
