With a new update from
Bethesda adding 16:9 widescreen support to the official re-releases on
DOOM (1993) and
DOOM II (1994). And by proper that means, "the original DOOM renderer has been modified to natively render 16:9 without any letterboxing".
Very cool. And to accommodate the new aspect ratio the FOV has been increased so you see more of those classic 90s environments in addition to widescreen updates to the title screens and even those end of mission tallies where you can see just how many secrets you missed. On the account of forgetting where they were.
The 16:9 update also applies to most of the Add Ons available, plus those that own he Ultimate DOOM or DOOM II: Hell On Earth on Steam. This widescreen support comes alongside a broader update to the classic DOOMies, including FPS limits, the option to add a crosshair (sacrilege!), and more.
