One of the best console racers of 2016 is about to be given the virtual treatment with a new update coming to the PlayStation 4 version that will add PlayStation VR support. Not limited to any one section of the game, DiRT Rally's PSVR support will be for the entire experience, making this an update that VR racing fans should definitely keep an eye out for. A virtual eye.

The VR compatibility upgrade will be available as a standalone DLC Add-On for existing players at AUD $19.45 on the PlayStation® Store, and will let you drive in fully immersive VR throughout the entire game supporting every car, every route and every discipline within DiRT Rally.

As well as allowing you to drive any of the stunning rally, rallycross and hill climb cars in full VR, the update to DiRT Rally will add a completely new Co-Driver Mode to the rally sections of the game. This new feature allows a second player to become engrossed in the action as they use the buttons and touchpad to give the pace note calls to the driver from the social screen. Just like with real life co-driving, timing and accuracy are vital in order for you to complete the stage in the best time possible.

There's also a 2D non-virtual trailer to accompany the announcement that you can check out below.

Here's hoping that VR support is added for other platforms in the future.

The PS4 getting the Battlefront VR exclusively, this... is Sony killing VR before it even takes flight?

For those that don't already own Dirt Rally but do own PS+ - it's currently going via the PS Store for $30 (normally $90)! $50 isn't a terrible price for this game.
