In a new interview with Rebecka Coutaz, DICE's new general manager that stepped in just as EA and the studio launched Battlefield 2042, we learn that the studio hasn't moved onto the next game, and is instead committed to fixing the game. As one of the most disastrous launches in recent memory, the recent launch of the the game's heavily delayed Season 1: Zero Hour has been met with a more positive reaction from fans.

In addition to many bug fixes and balance changes the new Season introduced a new map, Specialist, weapons, and complete overhaul of one of the existing launch maps.

"It's important for us to improve Battlefield 2042 and the experience that we can provide to our players," Rebecka Coutaz tells Gamesindustry.biz. "We owe them that." This comes after stating that disappointing fans that have been with the franchise for 20 years hit the team really hard.

"We have focused on the health of the game, and so bug after bug, patch after patch, we are fixing and improving it," Rebecka Coutaz said. "And each patch we have a little, little win, and that is important for our team because they were disappointed."

Although Battlefield 2042 was a major co-production with several EA studios like EA Gothenburg, Criterion, and Ripple Effect, perhaps the most interesting thing from this interview on the current state of DICE is that the entire studio is working to improve Battlefield 2042 - and that there hasn't been a shift towards the next big game.

"We are only focusing on Battlefield 2042," Rebecka Coutaz confirms. "There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we're going for."
