Destiny Beta Now Live for PlayStation Pre-Orders

Bungie has sent word that their beta phase for sci-fi shooter Destiny has now gone live, bringing the action to the big screens of those on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

Players will be able to compete in a wide range of content including the ability to level up to the respectable level 8, though we are told that this can take a fair few hours. Players will also get access to the PvP battlegrounds, the community-hub Tower and of course Destiny's infamous hovering bikes. More on what the beta has to offer can be found at the official website.

Destiny's beta will continue exclusively on the PlayStation consoles until July 23rd, with Xbox One and Xbox 360 players gaining access then. Maintenance is planned for July 21st and July 23rd, with the beta finishing on July 27th. Destiny will then launch on September 9th, so the wait won't be entirely long.

So it said it downloaded something from PSN (of the Beta) in about 1 minute flat... surely that's not the ACTUAL Beta file? Everyone says it's really large.
And when I go to install it, it says something about needing a license (have got Bungie code) and tells me to go to the PS Store - then says "This content cannot be accessed at this time".

WTF?? is it just that the Aus PS Store is being overwhelmed atm?

The download is about 12gb

You get the destiny beta code that you redeem to bungie who then give you a beta code for your chosen platform, PSN is 12 digits, you then redeem this from the PSN store and proceed to download the beta.

After that you will need to create or login into Bungie.net to play Destiny.

On PSN it said it was 13 GB, but it finished downloading in about 5 minutes. However, when I started it it took 2 hours to install a 10.9 GB content file.

I got "The code has already been redeemed on another account" when I tried to redeem mine. Guess the ausgamers thing handed out the same code to multiple people or something?

Nah does it say Playstation 4 AMERICAS or EUROPE?

I got dupped with AMERICAS so wouldn't run on my Australia "EUROPE" region (LULZ) console

Kappa was nice enough to offer me one out of sympathy :)

I'm actually just really confused now, went to the destiny site and made an account and went to redeem my code and thats when I got the "Code has already been redeemed" error. Found some other codes to use, for Europe/Australia but they are 3 sets of 4 characters, and the Destiny site is expecting a code that is three sets of 3 characters, so I try and enter these other codes and they just come up as invalid. Now I'm reading stuff that says I'm supposed to be able to choose my platform and region from within my account on the bungie site? But I can't find any option anywhere to do that.

This is rapidly reaching the point where I'm just going to toss it into the too hard basket.

The code you get from AG is a bungie code, not a PSN code. You redeem the bungie code on the bungie website, pick your region (Europe) and platform, then Bungie send you 3 x PSN codes which you use on your PS4 or the PSN website.

It doesn't say Playstation 4 or Americas or Europe or anything, I'm just trying to use the code from the Ausgamers giveaway a few months ago, and I go to http://www.bungie.net/en/User/coderedemption to redeem it and get this

Nowhere to pick platform or region or anything, and it seems like all the other codes I'm seeing aroung aren't in the XXX-XXX-XXX that page is expecting either

The code you get from AG is a bungie code, not a PSN code. You redeem the bungie code on the bungie website

Ah yeah, so I was doing it right then, just it looks like Ausgamers gave my code to someone else, since its already redeemed when I try and use it :(

Strange Khel as that's the process I took with mine. Make sure you are entering it correctly etc, and make sure its the pre-order code you are entering into the bungie account. Try signing into your account first then go to the redemption page, that may help.

You should be able to redeem those on your console or PSN site if they are valid.

Enter them into a PSN Redeem Code area and should activate your account unless it's American codes.

Scratch that, they are suppose to be entered into the redemption page.

I made a Bungie account last year, where I entered a code I got for pre-ordering. The Bungie page then has a code section where they give you the three beta codes. Use those beta codes on PSN.

I put a support ticket in via their support system about it, will see if I get a response. I'll post any updates here for Mantorok or anyone else who might find be having the same problem.

Starting to think its maybe a screw on Bungie/Activision's end where they accidentally gave the same codes to multiple to sites to give out or something like that.

Ok, I'm sorted, EB issued me some more codes.

Below are free ones, use as needed.
These are the 12 digit codes you enter in the ps3 store as a redeem download code.
Use Europe for aus, others only work in us.

You recently contacted Player Support with a question about which region to select when signing up for the Destiny Beta. If you are receiving this email, then the answer is Europe.

Thanks for contacting us. We will consider this issue resolved and close this support ticket.

Entirely not the issue I even contacted them about, gg. Eorl hooked me up with a PS4 code anyway so I could download it, but if the PR guys from Bungie get back to you with working codes, I'd still like to stick one on my account on the bungie website in case theres any benefits or rewards attached to it down the line.

Also, PS4 name is Khelzor, but I think most people here already have me added

Got to level 8, finished all the missions in russia, sad face you can't get to the moon, will continue to play MP until beta ends.

Will buy on release, very solid game from the makers of the worst FPS series ever made. Well done everyone.

I also fell for choosing America instead of Europe. Would have had fewer upset customers had they stuck with labelling it Global rather than Europe. I preordered for my sons birthday in April so he could play he beta and now he is gutted. Sent a note to Activision but don't have high hopes of getting it fixed in time.

Yeah, I played it for a bit this afternoon, only got to level 4 or so but its pretty damn cool, I'm really liking it. Tonnes of recogniseable voice talent in it, every NPC I talked to it was like playing the 'I know that voice! Damnit, who is that!'. So far I've noticed Claudia Black, Terrance Stamp and Lance Reddik (and peter dinklage of course), but I'm theres others.

I also selected Americas thinking it would only effect what servers it ran from. I take it thats why none of the codes I have can be redeemed.
So, I have 3 PS4 Americas keys.

Hrmm, tried the crucible, first impressions are that it was pretty s***. Apart from the lag that had people meleeing me from the other side of the room, it doesn't seem to match levels. Most of my team was level 5 against a team that was mostly level 8. Spent the whole game getting oneshot by people with uber guns before I even saw them, not terribly fun. The map seemed cool though

It's open beta now so you no longer need keys

I had the same problem Khel, I finished all the Earth missions went into PVP and got slaughtered at level 5

I'm pretty sure stats on items and equipment and players levels have no effect in the crucible, only in iron hammer (for the beta at least).

You got pwned cause your new and that's it.

Seems weapon stats matter in Crucible but armor stats are normalized per class, dunno what effect level has it on though, I only did some cursory googling. But then theres the extra abilities and upgrades you unlock as you level too that I guess gives a higher level an inherent advantage. It fits the RPG style its going for I guess, but maybe it just needs better level matching or brackets or something.

I didn't realise we had ended up in a fireteam/group thing last night till after I quit back to orbit, and I don't remember doing that manually, was wondering if the game just automagically groups you up with people on your friends list if you run into them out in the world and start working with them. Cos if so, thats pretty neat
