The recent financial call from Activision Blizzard was naturally one filled with an almost celebratory tone, with stellar sales and active users for both Overwatch and the Call of Duty franchise. Quarterly growth! And so forth. But the investor call also pointed to what's in store for 2017, including news that Destiny 2 is still on track for a 2017 release. And, that the next Call of Duty will see the franchise go "back to its roots."

So yeah, we've known for a while now that Destiny 2 is coming. Today's comments re-iterated this fact but also dropped word that Bungie will be looking to address one of the main complaints people had with the first game. And that was its story. Destiny 2 is being touted as featuring a "great cinematic story" with a "cast of memorable, relatable characters." Altough no further details were provided, rumours are suggesting that Destiny 2 will be getting PC release alongside its console counterparts.

As for Call of Duty going "back to its roots", well it would only be a guess, but we're assuming this refers to the setting. And that much like with Battlefield 1, a return to the past may be the best way to move forward. In reference to last year's Infinite Warfare, Activision basically confirmed that its sales didn't meet expectations partially due to the setting, "It’s clear for a portion of our audience, the space setting just didn’t resonate." Indeed, so we should probably start getting excited now for the eventual return to World War 2. And the eventual Call of Duty 2 remake that will only be available as part of the $200 Elite Deluxe Collectors Edition.

We kid. Sort of. We're still excited to see a WWII Call of Duty though.
