After a two year development supported by Indie Fund, the Half-life 2 mod turned retail game Dear Esther is nearing launch day and a new trailer has been released looking damn impressive for a low-budget indie title.
Dear Esther immerses you in a stunningly realised world, a remote and desolate island somewhere in the outer Hebrides. As you step forwards, a voice begins to read fragments of a letter: "Dear Esther..." - and so begins a journey through one of the most original first-person games of recent years. Abandoning traditional gameplay for a pure story-driven experience, Dear Esther fuses it’s beautiful environments with a breathtaking soundtrack to tell a powerful story of love, loss, guilt and redemption.
Watch the embedded video below or click here for the HD video page, then head over to Steam to catch Dear Esther when it lands on North American Valentines Day (February 15th 2012 for us).
I've been following Dear Esther since the beginning and feel compelled to let as many people as I know to buy it. Probably the most innovative gaming (or story driven entertainment) concept to date.
