Still hating the trend of announcing paid DLC around the time of a games release, you mean I get to pay more later and the game isn't even out yet? whoopee!

Been playing this game today and I dunno if its just me but this was way under my radar but its already beaten out most games I can remember from last year. (including dishonored)

The previous games were pretty well regarded but I never got into them that much. This one is epic.

I have spent the first 2hours hopping between chunks of ship wreckage in a spacesuit, scavenging for air tanks as I go, looking for materials to make big angry guns. There is a shuttle you can use to fast travel between major shipwrecks of this huge destroyed flotilla (which is really coolly presented to hide the load time) to keep going after more s***. I could have gotten on with the main story instead of scavenging but there was an optional mission on a wreck and I got majorly distracted hunting for treasure after that. (shooting pressurized supply lockers in a vacuum has revolutionized crates for ever)

The weapon crafting system is the coolest toy since the HL2 gravity gun. I am sure games have tried a similar thing in the past but I can't think of any right now because this has eclipsed them all. You use a big or small base and then put a primary&secondary 'tool' onto it (some change effect depending on big/small and if they are primary or secondary on the base frame) and then you can further modify each tool with a 'tip' - yes, tool tips is a bad name.

So for example.

I just made a giant electrofied shotgun of spike throwing mayhem: put the 'military tool' as primary (which gives an assault rifle when big or an smg when small) then put a conical spreader tip on to make a shotgun. Underneath I have a spike thrower with a chain gun attachment to increase the weapons range.

You can then add 2 weapon attachments, like scopes/automatic ammo collectors/dmg type modifiers and other s***. On top of that the old upgrade system of circuit boards is still in play so you can further modify things like reload speed, rate of fire dmg clip size etc

With just a few swaps I could have made a sniper rifle with underslung spike shotgun and that is just 2 of the 6 or so tools I have found before even starting the game proper...

You can save weapon configurations as blueprints and share them in co-op play (oh yeah, it has that too) and the game comes with a giant list of developer favorite blueprints if you have no imagination :P

tl;dr dead space 3 f***en owns
