While the ArmA 2 mod has captured the audience of millions, many have long since wondered why the standalone title that Dean "Rocket" Hall is currently working on with his team at Bohemia Interactive hasn't yet seen the light on consoles.

According to a new interview with Eurogamer, DayZ may eventually see a release on the PlayStation 4, however in regards to the Xbox One this is less likely due to the restrictive self-publishing rules that Microsoft implore.

"Yeah, we talked to both of them. But, as I'm sure you're aware, Sony lets you self-publish and they don't make you pay for updates. Microsoft requires you to have a publisher. They have no digital distribution strategy and they require you to pay $10,000, or whatever it is, for updates."

When asked what he thought of the PlayStation 4, Hall revealed that Bohemia likes what they saw, but also clarified the same for the Xbox One. "I like what I saw on the Xbox in a lot of cases as well. I'm not shitting on them. I'm kind of hopeful that Microsoft has just forgot to talk about its indie support. Maybe I'm being a bit naive."

What is clear though is that we may eventually see a console release of DayZ Standalone thanks to the new generation of architechture, something that Hall believes is not a problem for his team and that "the only barriers are the ones console manufacturers put up in the way of indie devs."

Luckily for PC players Hall is still containing his focus on ensuring that the PC version is done first before moving onto a console project. For those in need of a countdown for when exactly we'll be seeing the release date for DayZ Standalone, Hall revealed that "it's very close. We're at a point where we need people to play it and tell us whether it's good or not."

They make an excellent point, it's going to be so much easier for indi devs now that consoles have moved to an x86 architecture, Hopefully Microsoft change there ways when it comes to ease of access for self publishing so we can see more content indie content and pc ports.

i hope the PS4 has native kb/mouse support. I love nothing more than gaming from the couch with my 10k stereo/tv setup.

Recently finished dead space 3 with my PC hooked up, multi analog output and HDMI from video card, used a controller via bluetooth.
Simply couldnt aim for s*** so i had to lower the difficulty enough to survive being pummeled by hordes of monsters so i could kill them.

Every time I see a DayZ post I hope so hard that it's about an open beta, or a release date.

It never is :(
