In case you didn't find yesterday's teaser trailer that revealed MechAssault creators Day 1 Studios were working on a new Mech game interesting, today they've released another clip. This time with more gameplay and an official name for their upcoming title.

Reign of Thunder is the name of the game and this bipedal robot action game will be free to play with a focus on online multiplayer. While no platforms are explicitly confirmed, the free to play business model likely implies PC only for now and Day 1 promises that a beta is upcoming.

The frenetic, third person action-combat game allows players to create and customize Mechs to match their play style, choosing from thousands of weapon, shield, and gadget combinations. Players can also join factions and form clans to support community engagement and team play.

The game’s Creative Director and Executive Producer, TJ “PAINGOD” Wagner said “It feels great to return to the Mech genre and community we’ve played games with and made games with, for almost two decades. Combining the customization and RPG elements of the early MechWarrior PC and board games with the fast paced arcade action of the MechAssault series and making it all Free-to-Play is an exciting opportunity to be part of. I’m dying to get Thunder in the hands of new and old Mech pilots alike and battle it out. The best part is that time is very, very near.”

If it is F2P like World of Tanks (dedicated servers) then it will be awesome. If it is F2P like Huxley the Distopian (peer 2 peer) it will suck.

I hope I'm not the only one that was very underwhelmed by that...

Something not right about the idea of 20-100 Ton machines dancing around with the agility of a small child. There is no feel to the immense weight and presence of the Mechs. If I wanted something like this, I'd be much more inclined to go to that other fast paced Mech style combat game coming out soon, Hawken I think it was called, now that, looked freaking cool for what it was.

Why is is so difficult to just bring out a well polished modern original MechWarrior game with deep roots into the old customization and strategic gameplay? Hell even MechWarrior Living Legends feels more epic then this crap, and it's also free to play and multiplayer too.

Yeh, the mechs do look too fast and nimble. I played a bit of Mech2(? can't even remember which one it was now) and always liked the "feel" of everything, it did make it seem more like you were in a big destructo machine.
