Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition players will be able to migrate their game, saves and achievements from the Games for Windows Live (GFWL) platform to Steam next month, according to a post on the game's
Facebook page.
For a period of time beginning “sometime in November,” GFWL users will be able to transfer Dark Souls characters, progress and Achievements to their Steam accounts, but GFWL Rankings will not be transferred to Steam. Specific migration dates and more information will be shared with users in the coming weeks.
GFWL players are required to redeem GFWL tokens on Steam to get Dark Souls for free. A guide for locating keys is outlined on the support page. Tokens can still be used after the migration period ends but it’s likely that game save data and Achievements transfers will not be possible.
The migration announcement follows Bandai Namco's promise in May that it was looking into other services to keep Dark Souls alive a few months before the service was reportedly due to be shuttered.
