This is truly amazing news. I'll be buying it for sure. I really hope they make a lot of sales from this brave decision as I would hope they then take into consideration the PC market for games like this.

New content? PC multiplayer? Hell yes i'll buy this. Even though I already own it for the PS3 it's oh so worth it. Hopefully they improve the invite system a bit though so you can easily start up a friends only game.

With my brand new baby 680 in my system as of 5 minutes ago i'm ready to blast the s*** out of the graphics too, no more 10 fps in blighttown!

Oh and on the subject of dark souls and blighttown, here is a invading troll video. Pretty decent shot too.

What a shame it's using GFWL.

There seem to be conflicting rumours, with it either being run with GFWL or that it's just the usual tag that Microsoft puts on all Windows games.

I was really looking forward to this until I read that it uses GFWL
DM
Posted 07:50pm 12/4/12
It's only rumored to be using GFWL but this redditor seems to know why they would pick that.

Besides, Dark Souls is all about making the player suffer and suffer HORRIBLY. Can you think of a better way to transport them to a realm of perpetual suffering than by using GFWL?

Oh and on the subject of dark souls and blighttown

that is where i am stuck at the moment, i am getting owned by the boss spider thing. i have given it a few goes with other people and still keep dying

or someone invades me and they always seem to have all these sick gear and destroy me without even trying

i think the last time i played it i was in the middle of getting flash sweat from town so i had some defense against the lava the boss spews out

Boss Spider SUCKS. Even if you have the dragon sword it takes awhile. The way I do it is go human and summon the maneater mildred soul (after killing the npc phantom that invades you) as help. Even though she is naked with a s***** weapon she does just as much damage as you and takes very little damage so works as a good tank. Unless you really have bad luck you should be able to do it with her. Some tips

- If you have magic like soul arrow or greater soul arrow it makes things a bit easier with mildred up and when queeleag isn't chasing you.
- Make sure your shield blocks 100% physical
- If she starts glowing red, unlock and run your ass away because she is about to explode and do huge damage
- Her red flame lash can hurt if you get hit with it and blocking takes a bit of HP away per hit. Block it and heal up if you need when mildred is taking damage.
- Her fireballs are easy to dodge but they drop AoE as you know so can really hurt if you get hit and she does the flame whip move.
- When she is attacking mildred you can go nuts on her but always be ready to run away when she looks at you.

It does take awhile, and while mildred can die she should stay up long enough for you to do at least 2/3rds of her hp or more. In the firelink shrine graveyard run fast and collect the souls and you will pick up a winged spear. It lets you attack with your shield up and is very OP if you ask me. I used this instead of the dragon sword until I managed to grab the lightning spear from Sen's Fortress. When you beat her, avoid the temptation to explore much in the next area. There is some armor you can get but that's about it since the mobs there are pretty high level.

i am only able to summon her once arent it?

if i summon her and we both die i cant summon her again can i? i dont think

The way I do it is go human and summon the maneater mildred soul

unfortunately more than half the time i try that i usually get ganked by some f****tick phantom

I know, its a bit of a gamble but if you get there you can summon her much as you want. its very helpful. she really is a beast. She wont mean insta win but much higher odds with her.

Pave, maybe you're too high level for the area?

I went in at lev 25 or so and did the whole thing without getting invaded once.

Thing about invaders is they invade up from their level so if you want to avoid it, stay under the leveling curve a bit.

Im taking bets that 10fpstown will still be laggy on the PC.

Hurry up and get through Sen's Funhouse Pave, Anor Londo after that....

If you though spider tits was hard, you are gonna love Biggie Smalls. I have a lvl 55 sitting at the door if you need a hand (you will).

Also what weapon are you using? I hope its not that piece of s*** Drake Sword because it doesnt scale with stats and really shouldnt be used once you make it to Blightown.

paveway
Posted 12:06pm 30/4/12
yeah bro i am through sens didn't find it too hard to be honest, once i stopped trying to drop down into the big pit for the treasures

into arnor londo now, lost like 50k worth of souls last night and called it quits for the night at the bit where there are 2 silver knight archers either side this tower you're on and you have to make your way up the little roof between them

i'm using the lightning spear that the mimic dropped in sens

who is biggie smalls? (aside from the dead rapper, obviously)
^rza
Posted 01:13pm 30/4/12
Orstein and Smough aka Biggie Smalls. The boss for Anor Londo and arguably the hardest in the game (if you take them on solo).

Dont worry about losing souls, there are plenty to be had. I lost 72 Humanity and 3mill souls the other night....

What sort of build are you going with? Its best to try to find a weapon that scales well with whatever stats your loading. That said, if you want to go with lightning/fire etc pick whatever weapon you like because they lose their scaling once you enchant them.

i have a pyro, not really going for any build as such

i've basically been stacking my levels into endurance, vitality and some attunement

i am going to turn around from where i am and go back to blighttown and join the chaos covenant to get the pryo skill she gives you and i think i need to upgrade my pyro glove some more

at the moment i really have no idea how i'm going to get another good weapon, i have no idea really what to try and craft that will deal some good damage. i have a barb straight swoard that i got from kirk that i have upgraded a bit, do you just have to pick a weapon and just go nuts upgrading?

I wouldnt worry too much about your pyro glove. Most of the pyro spells are pretty lackluster. Chaos firestorm is decent, but you dont get that until you give 30 humanity to Queelana.

The black knight weapons are good for a first play through. Problem is, there are only so many black knights before the kiln and if they dont drop the weapons you have to wait till you get to the kiln to farm them.

But yea, you can pretty much upgrade whatever weapon you want and it will do decent damage once you max its upgrade path out. Just find something with a move set you like then upgrade it.

You got the large ember from the depths didnt you?

paveway
Posted 05:48pm 30/4/12

at the moment i really have no idea how i'm going to get another good weapon

The Drake Sword will last you awhile, more if you upgrade it but I found it to be lacking a bit since enemies begin getting tougher around blighttown.

My favourite weapon comes from Sen's Fortress. I forget exactly where but about half wayish up there is a mimic chest near an elevator. If you kill it he drops a Lightning Spear. That thing is incredibly strong against most mobs and can attack with your shield up.

Quelaag's Furysword is also great as it's very heavy fire damage, I think the biggest of the 1h weapons. Just need her soul + a Lv 10 curved sword. I used a falchion. I love the Falchion moveset as the forward + attack is a quick slash and back roll which I always find handy.

3rd most used weapon for me is the Lifehunt Scythe. +10 scythe with Priscillia's soul, though that may be hard to get since you need to clear the painted world of arimas, which has some cool drops but also quite hard. She turns invisible and you have to keep track of her footprints in snow and fireball her out of invis. Then you have to kill her, cutting off her tail if you can to get an epic dagger which is great for pvp.
paveway
Posted 06:22pm 30/4/12
yeah i have the lightning spear now, it is doing the job niceley at the moment

i was considering making that queelag sword actually, i have the soul and i have a falchion and im closish to the giant blacksmith
^rza
Posted 08:03pm 30/4/12
Its a shame but Quelaags is actually a pretty bad choice. While the animation is good, when it comes to dmg output it isnt that high but the worst part is it scales with humanity. You need to have 10 soft humanity on you at all times to make the most of it. Even then its still out ranked by just about anything thats +15 with sunlight blade or dark moon blade on it. But SB or DMB is a temporary buff.

If you level up the stats to one hand that BKGA i dropped you pave you will be laughing. You wont get a better dps output then that unless you use temp buffs on +15 weapons.

We should set up some duels DM!

i was thinking of making a new character with either miracles or scorercy
^rza
Posted 05:35pm 01/5/12
hahaha did you manage to get them down DM?

He is talking about Biggie Smalls (Orstein and Smough) pave, the next boss you got in anor londo!!! :D

Build i am using for that character is a dex/faith build. Its more of a pvp build though. It sacrifices consistent high damage with insanely high damage for 60secs bursts. Catch with that is you only get one charge of Sunlight blade before you have to reset the charges at a bonfire. I can tell you the stat make up and spells i use if you want.

Those aoe bursts you would have seen me spamming is a miracle called Wrath of Gods. It hits for about 500 per charge at that lvl. Its widely accepted as overpowered and cheap, but im sorry most of the japs i come across in pvp are cheap as f***, so they deserve it.

If you get the stats to 1h that axe i dropped for you it will do pretty decent damage. Also upgrade it at the Giant Blacksmith to +5, you will need twinkling titanite. You can find them or buy them from him. He also sells Giants Armour which is the best armour in the game at the mo.

If you do decide to roll a faith or int build, pick one or the other to lvl up not both. Sorc makes it pretty easy with the long range spells, you might get checked at 4kings and Seth though.....Both of those bosses are pretty resistant to magic.

Embarrassingly enough ive sunk over 300 hours into this game, finished it 6 or 7 times and tried out virtually every viable build. Even finished it with a lvl 10 (There have been plenty of people who have done it with a lvl 1). Mind you, i only did that so i could invade newbs in the burg at lvl 10 with lightning weapons and rape their face.

It was Steve's GOTY last year wasnt it?

DM
Posted 05:39pm 01/5/12
Nah I couldn't kill them. My character is a tad buggered, Got like 20 Vit and End, 29 Int and enough other stats to use drake sword. Might backtrack and pick up that pyromancy flesh spell, forget it's exact name, that turns you into a walking tank. Might make things easier for me.
^rza
Posted 05:44pm 01/5/12
What SL are you? I can drop you some gear if you want, thats if your PSN of course.

Your stats sound fine for an int build. Did you save Big Hat Logan from Sens Funhouse? If not you wont have any of the good spells.

^rza
Posted 05:47pm 01/5/12
Btw get rid of that Drakesword. Its only good up until about lvl 20. Reason being is it doesnt scale with your stats. You need a weapon you can upgrade then either enchant to lightning or +15 so you can buff it.
DM
Posted 05:49pm 01/5/12
I think my SL is around 49ish? Maybe 59? Forget exactly and yes I saved him. What really s**** me is if I reverse hollow (something I can only do like 3 more times before i'm out of humanity items) I get invaded before I make it to the white door. Not only that but I have to deal with the 2 huge giants guarding the door, something not easy. By the time i've dealt with them all my magic is gone and there is no point to trying the boss without magic as a magic build. I'm pretty much stuck and can't get out of it so that's why I havn't played it for ages.

EDIT - I stopped using the drake sword long ago. I got a +3 lightning spear I mainly use and a bunch of other weapons besides that I could switch to.

PS3. I'm saved to the last fire before the white door. MIght as well boot the game up and give things a shot again. Might get lucky. Wish I had of used that dupe bug to get a ton of items.

oh and my ps3 ID or whatever is Serimorph

Haha the dupe bug is for Demons Souls not Dark Souls.

You can farm humanity from the rats in the depths. I can drop you some also i have a bit.

Add me on psn - Bustedfooty
DM
Posted 09:08pm 01/5/12
No there is a dupe bug for DS too but it was patched, so to do it you need to delete the patch data from your PS3. That's how some people are running around with like 3 - 4m souls and 99/999 of all items.

Good night though! I managed to beat the twins and also pick up that 3 shooter xbow. Took about 6 attempts to get it and after a +5 upgrade only does like 15 damage a hit lol. Need to farm some souls and get this upgraded to a lightning type.

well i managed to kill the hellkite dragon and join the warrior of sunlight team, just a little thing ive been wanting to do

i also upgraded my pyro glove a few times and got fire orb and have upgraded my lightning spear too so i have gone back to anor to give it another go as i should be dealing some better damage now.

as it was those silver knights were just too much, i would spend like minutes trying to kill 1. the ones with the swords i would kill most of the time but the ones with the poleaxes were killing me more often than not

rza i was thinking a miracle build on a knight, someone decent enough with weapons that will get me by until i can ramp up some miracles. i saw someone use the lighting spear the other night and thought that was the coolest thing ever, my guy has it now but no where near enough faith to use it
DM
Posted 09:59pm 01/5/12
I was thinking of a Dex heavy miracle build too, since the weapons I love most have Dex as their main stat. And I love actual sorcerery more than pyro since there is way more useful stuff. 1 thing that I have to test though is if having the forest covenant ninja ring makes you flip if you are almost full weight load. If so that will help out a ton.
paveway

yeah i was thinking strength heavy, faith heavy build so i can just deal heavy with weapons and use some miracles or maybe scorcery.

There is no chance of me using that black knight axe for a while, i'm still like 29 strength off being able to use it lol

Warrior cov is only good to get lightning spear, you get the semi decent one after you drop 10 sunlight medals. Its pretty strong against most bosses and will carry you through an NG run.

i also upgraded my pyro glove a few times and got fire orb and have upgraded my lightning spear too so i have gone back to anor to give it another go as i should be dealing some better damage now.

Dude f*** the pyro glove, its a waste of souls. There are far more effective spells and miracles around to worry about if you intend to go that path. Its only worthwhile for a build that doesnt invest points into faith or int (even then it blows).

rza i was thinking a miracle build on a knight, someone decent enough with weapons that will get me by until i can ramp up some miracles. i saw someone use the lighting spear the other night and thought that was the coolest thing ever, my guy has it now but no where near enough faith to use it

If you want to focus on miracles i suggest starting as a cleric. Reason being they start off with more points in faith so you can reach the minimums for your desired miracles quicker and be able to invest the rest of your stats elsewhere. To be honest it really doesnt matter what class you start with...it just dictates your base stats and starting armour. The starting armour is all pretty bad.

I was thinking of a Dex heavy miracle build too, since the weapons I love most have Dex as their main stat.

I would recommend the utchigatana (not exactly how you spell it, but its close). Thats what i use. It starts off with B scaling in dex, once you hit 40 dex i think, it changes to A scaling. It also has a 300 bleed proc that can also accumulate when they have a shield up. Another plus is that its dropped by the undead merchant in the parish right at the start. You just have to slice him up.

And I love actual sorcerery more than pyro since there is way more useful stuff. 1 thing that I have to test though is if having the forest covenant ninja ring makes you flip if you are almost full weight load. If so that will help out a ton.

Sorc is a s***load better then pyro. Pyro f***** blows, i really cant stress it enough :) The Dark Wood Grain Ring is the only ring i always have equipped. The flipping motion has invincibility frames, so essentially, you can flip through any attack while those i frames are up and you wont take damage. You need to have below 50% equipment weight though for the flipping effect to work.

If you pick up havels ring it increases your equip load by 50%. If you pick up Mask of Father it increases it by i think 15 or 20%. If you increase your endurance it will increase it also. As you can see, its pretty easy to get you to under 50% with those two items alone regardless of what you wanna wear.

yeah i was thinking strength heavy, faith heavy build so i can just deal heavy with weapons and use some miracles or maybe scorcery. There is no chance of me using that black knight axe for a while, i'm still like 29 strength off being able to use it lol

Havent played a Str/faith build. You would probably be better off with a dex/faith build though mate. Only because, one of the best miracles you can get is sunlight blade that you can use at 30 faith. Its a lightning buff that is applied to the weapon. But it can only be applied to specific weapons. For instance you cant apply it to any of the Black Knight weapons, boss weapons... a lot of weapons that have a high strength requirement basically.

The sword he is talking about if you go left is great because it's divine so can perma kill skeletons, scales from faith if I remember right and only needs something like 10 str/dex and 12 faith, something you will have no problem getting unlike the drake swords 16 str 12 dex. It's just as strong on most mobs. I'm gonna remake a sorcerer tonight.
