Another announcement to come out of Namco Bandai's Level Up event in Dubai today is a release window for Dark Souls, which it has now been revealed will touch down on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 a few short months from now in October 2011. Dark Souls, of course, is the follow up to Demon's Souls, the Japanese developed medieval action-RPG that met critical acclaim but didn't find its way to as many homes as it should, thanks to an extremely tardy western release schedule (over a year and a half between the Japanese and European launches).

That looks to have been remedied this time around, with a simultaneous October launch for western markets only one month behind the September Japanese launch for Dark Souls.
Set in a rich, dark fantasy universe, Dark Souls features tense dungeon crawling, fearsome enemy encounters and ground-breaking online features which combine for a truly unique RPG experience. Dark Souls breaks down barriers with a seamless world design that encourages exploration and fosters adaptability. As players encounter terrifying enemies and discover new areas, the game's foundation of challenge and reward permeates the experience to provide an unparalleled sense of achievement.
Further, a limited edition has been announced that -- for the same price as the standard retail version -- will include the original soundtrack, a behind-the-scenes film and a hardcover art book.

Its a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls (Sony has rights to that name I believe). These guys didn't know what they were unleashing and only woke up to western releases in response to heavy numbers importing copies. Demon's Souls was/is one of the best RPGs on the PS3. Dark Souls will be one to keep an eye on as I'm sure it will be more of the same..ruthless but rewarding.

Demon's Souls is a harsh mistress. Keen to see how this one goes.

It was harsh only until you found some rhythm in your chars combat moves etc
most enemies had an easy way to be killed, it was just a pita to figure it out.
Yeah this will be interesting, looking forward to it.
