Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most visually impressive, and intensive, PC games currently out there. Especially when it comes to real-time ray-tracing. When NVIDIA lifted the lid on the new GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 it showcased the new Ada generation's DLSS 3 tech and Frame Generation enabled in Night City. The results were pretty spectacular, and now the game has been updated with full DLSS 3 support.
As per the trailer below, the boost in performance is mind-blowing.
DLSS 3 is a combination of DLSS Super Resolution (what we know of as DLSS 2), NVIDIA Reflex, and Frame Generation. It's the latter that needs new dedicated AI hardware to run, which is why DLSS 3 is exclusive to the GeForce RTX 40 Series of GPUs. By using AI to generate entire frames it offers a dramatic boost to performance whilst still keeping latency within a playable range. So much so that it even improves latency over the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti in 4K using DLSS 2.
Here's a look at 1440p and 4K benchmarks - via NVIDIA.
“Playing Cyberpunk 2077 with the AI-powered performance of NVIDIA DLSS 3 is the best way to access the stunning visuals the game has to offer — this technology helps us take a new step toward combining unconstrained visual fidelity with exceptional performance," Jakub Knapik, Global Art Director, CD PROJEKT RED says.
This DLSS 3 update in Cyberpunk 2077 also brings improvements to DLSS 3 image quality and UI stability over previous versions we've seen in action, which is very cool. It also paves the way for Cyberpunk 2077's new RT Overdrive mode which will push the game's already insane ray-tracing to new levels.
