Now there's a headline. The award-winning and beloved indie platformer Cuphead is making it's way to the Nintendo Switch in April. Where the game will also support Xbox Live - in a joint partnership with developer StudioMDHR and both Nintendo and Microsoft. Of course, the real winner here is the ability to play the brilliant Cuphead on-the-go.
Where no doubt it will be a lot harder to mask the pure rage you experience after failing for the umpteenth time.
As per
our review.
Cuphead’s visual draw is only one half of the tale. The second lies in its unrelenting attempts at breaking you down. This game is one of the most challenging you’ll ever face, and it loves to make you work for your accolades, of which there are actually few. In Cuphead, progress is gated behind these seemingly impossible levels and bosses you face. There aren’t a lot of them, island to island, but those that tease you with their beautifully-homaged cartoon appearance on that equally beautifully hand painted overworld, are psychopaths waiting to stop you in every possible way.
Regarding Xbox Live, the functionality might come a bit after launch - as per Microsoft's
wider Xbox post surrounding indies at GDC.
We are partnering with StudioMDHR to investigate bringing Xbox Live features beyond Xbox and PC to Nintendo Switch. Yes, this means that fans will now have the opportunity to experience StudioMDHR’s award-winning debut game on Nintendo Switch with Xbox Live! We’ll be working with StudioMDHR to implement Xbox Live features into Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months. Given the early stage of our work with StudioMDHR, the Xbox Live features will appear in a post-launch update to Cuphead on Nintendo Switch. We’d like to thank Studio MDHR and Nintendo for their help in this investigation!
