When From Software released Demon's Souls, it grabbed a lot of attention from the hardcore RPG scene who enjoyed the difficulty that offered, something that was lacking in recent titles. It was a wide success for a PlayStation exclusive and gave the confidence for From Software to develop their next title, Dark Souls, on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
The reception was outstanding, with everyone enjoying the new storyline, the difficulty curve still intact and just a all round great game. However, PC gamers were eager for action, and seeing that a once exclusive title on PS3 branched into Xbox 360, were hoping From Software would answer their prayers.
AusGamers was lucky enough to have a
interview with the Dark Souls Producers themselves, Kei Hirono and Daisuke Uchiyama, before the initial release. Among the questions, we asked whether a PC version was on the list.
It’s a tough question. We don’t have a definite answer for you right now, but one of the steps we took from being a partner with From Software was we were able to create an Xbox 360 as well as a PS3 game to increase the fanbase. Something like the PC is always in our minds, but there’s no definitive answer right now.
First we want to wait for the street-date, see how well it does, then think forward after that.
On January 6, 2012, fans began a petition to the developers themselves, showing just how much they wanted a PC version of Dark Souls. It gathered a little over 86,200 signatures in just under two weeks, which really goes to show how much players want a difficult RPG, one that offers a unique permanent death like mechanic, where players lose the souls that they have gathered.
On January 13, Tony Shoupinou replied by saying;
Damn you are amazing! I honestly wasn’t expecting such a massive support. My boss(es) even came to talk to me about this, after it exploded all around the world. If you wanted to have the attention of Namco Bandai Games, now you have it. The future is in your hands, and I hope you will keep supporting this. I make a personal objective to make sure every relevant person at Namco Bandai Games is in touch with this formidable effort.
After that, nothing has really been said in due to a PC version. Except for today. On the
Namco Bandai forums, Tony Shoupinou has responded to the ever increasing signatures, and it looks like we may be in for a surprise soon.
I'm still following the topic, don't worry but as I already said I have no rights to tell anything. However, I would like to take the opportunity to have many eyes focused on this forum to ask to the guy who started the petition on http://petitionbureau.org/DarkSoulsForPC if we could get in touch.
If you read me or if someone could let him know I'm looking to get in touch with him, that would be great!
With this new addition to the bid for a PC edition, could we finally see Dark Souls make it's way over here, and maybe even subsequent releases?
If there ever was a PC edition of Dark Souls, would you play it? Leave us a comment below on your thoughts, and hopefully if the news comes true we will have more to report!

Dark Souls was by far one of the best titles in the last year, only suffering a few minor flaws that have since been addressed. exposing more people to the game is nothing but a brilliant move.

I'm conflicted about this game, because everyone says its good, but I just know it'd bring out hulk-style gamer rage in me and I might possibly destroy something nearby.
