Techland parting ways after working with Chris Avellone as a contributor on the upcoming open-world RPG. "We treat matters of sexual harassment and disrespect with utmost care, and have no tolerance for such behaviors," the statement reads. "It applies to both of our employees as well as external consultants, Chris among them. This is why, together with Chris Avellone, we've decided to end our cooperation."
Chris Avellone is an industry veteran who's written for some of the biggest RPG releases over the past few decades. From Planescape: Torment to Fallout: New Vegas to upcoming releases like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Dying Light 2, and indie RPG The Waylanders. Odds are you've played a game that he's written for where you've admired the story.
The allegations emerged following an IGN interview relating to The Waylanders, which Chris has been attached to since its initial announcement. Twitter user Karissa came forward to say, "I witnessed, and experienced, his behavior firsthand. He got me blackout drunk on Midori Sours (on the company dime). He and two friends somehow got me back to my room, where he pounced in front of the other guys", in an explosive revelation. The thread can be
found here. This then prompted others to come forward to cite similar behaviour.
Chris Avellone has responded with an apology, but has not confirmed or denied the allegations. In addition to Techland parting ways with the writer, Paradox Interactive has advised that none of his work will remain in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, with the indie studio behind The Waylanders, Gato Studio, also cutting ties.
