With the recent Nintendo Switch-exclusive
Monster Hunter Rise coming to PC in January 2022, and
Resident Evil 8 arriving on PC the same time as its console debut, Japanese publisher and developer
Capcom is looking to shift its platform strategy going forward. A shift that will see PC become the main platform.
As per this report
by Nikkei, in addition to corroboration by Bloomberg reporter
Takashi Mochizuki, the aim is to have 50% of its sales on PC and 50% on consoles by 2022/2023.
More of a "based on actual data" deal than a random shift to try and capture a new audience Capcom has seen its releases on Steam (PC) across franchises like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and others gain massive traction in recent years. And with that it seems we're going to see more and more titles arrive day and date on PC, in addition to the PC being a focus for stability, performance, and additional features.
This is an interesting bit of news, especially as we're still early in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X generation, though it's one based on recent sales trends Capcom has seen.
