Recently we got our first look at Striking Distance Studios new sci-fi survival horror The Callisto Protocol in trailer form and today comes the first look at gameplay. As a spiritual successor of sorts to Dead Space (Striking Distance CEO Glen Schofield created the original) we get to see some third-person exploration, limb targeting, and a surprise (and gruesome) environmental death.

Check it out.

In this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set
300 years in the future, the player will take on the role of Jacob
Lee – a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-
security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. When
inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is
thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety
to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and
disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto.

Using a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat, Jacob
will need to adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving
creatures while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and
abilities to outrun the growing threat and escape the horrors of
Jupiter’s Dead Moon.

As per the trailer protagonist Jacob Lee's pistol also doubles as a gravity weapon, something the prison guards would use to manage space prisoners. And now, mutated horrors.

The Callisto Protocol is out December 2 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

And as a nice little bonus we got an extended version of the trailer that dropped last week.
