Following the ludicrously successful November launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the attention of Activision, Infinity Ward and the other dev studios still involved in the game has turned to the upcoming downloadable content schedule -- and with a big part of the Call of Duty Elite premium subscription service being the included access to said content, this is shaping up to be the biggest post-launch push that the flagship franchise has seen.

Today Activision have officialy revealed their intended DLC release schedule for Modern Warfare 3, promising nine months of regularly released new content -- well, for Xbox 360 players at least.

As the lead and favoured platform for the game, all the dates and releases pertain to the Xbox Live launch of the new content, with "at a later time" being the only dates given for PlayStation 3 and PC offerings (with still no date for when the Elite service will be available for the later).
All content drops for Call of Duty Elite premium members will occur once a month, starting in January for Xbox Live users and will continue through the year, ending in September. During the first three months of 2012, Activision will release five different content drops on three occasions in January, February and March, first on Xbox Live, followed by additional platforms at a later time.

The first two Content Drops will be multiplayer maps—also playable in Modern Warfare 3 Survival Mode—that throw combatants into a war-torn Central Park and an Italian seaside village. Liberation is a vast, militarized landscape, ripe for long-range sniper and LMG fire, with mounted turrets on either end that lend power to anyone brave enough to expose themselves in exchange for deadly firepower. Piazza is the idyllic Italian getaway that is anything but, where tight corners and branching pathways pose great risk at every turn. Close-range combat dominates in Piazza, where attacks from behind, above and below are an ever-constant threat.

The third Content Drop will be available for download in mid-February and two additional Content Drops will go live in March, as premium Call of Duty Elite members will receive new content once a month through September. Also in March, the first Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection will be available for purchase by the entire Call of Duty: MW3 player community on Xbox Live.
A glimpse at some of the new maps on the way can be found in the latest promotional trailer which you can watch embedded below or here on the HD video page.

I just saw this on facebook (actually I posted it on here a while ago) and all I can say is: pfft.

Two maps? TWO? If this costs us any more than $5 they can go to hell. What's the bet PC's won't get any of it until it's all been released so we'll be waiting a year for all this content, by which time mw4 will probably be out anyway.

They disgust me. DLC is a cancer, a highly profitable one that I shall never buy into. 2 days to slap a map together and whack a price tag on it, scam alert.

and there are no journalists in the industry with enough cred to call anyone on this kind of bulls***, just shill for them. the most f***ed up thing is that ps3 players paying for elite wont even get it at the same time as xbox subscribers.

apparently the microsoft embargo-esque deal runs out this year for cod, I wonder if activision will sign back up... seems mad when they can make a billion on the initial sales alone, if they could sell DLC restriction free you would think they could make more money.

for the later).
latter.

Also yeah yay and stuff. I want news on Skyrim DLC. Post some or failing that, just fabricate something. I need it now!

DLC is a cancer
I dunno about that. Just like games in general, there is good DLC (Missing Link for Deus Ex) and bad DLC (horse armour for Oblivion which I bought :/). All you need to do is not buy the bad DLC and only the good DLC and You're Winner!

Trouble with map pack DLC is that they've basically taken away the ability for the community to make the maps because they discovered they can make tons of money by selling small packs that you -HAVE- to get if you want to play with your friends *eyeroll*

Gimme back my CS days where you have custom and great quality maps for free...

Dont get my wrong i loved all call of duty's games. But ever since ive played BF3 i dont to even wonna play MW3 the game has s*** graphics even on the highest settings. Also no matter how high you run AA it still has that S*** blurry post processing effect i got 2x6990's btw. As for the map design i found them to be layed out in a way that no one has the upper hand e.g people can always gank you from behind which is good in away. But compared to open world maps in BF3 it lacks in all aspects. As for DLC if its anything like the previous games its just another way to suck the money out of you. Maybe when its not a console port they'll make maps more for quality then performance.

Or maybe ive just played to much COD!

Peace out.

you gotta use the native setting in image quality or whatever the f*** its called - it is the dumbest console port originating load of bollocks ever. even though it has so many problems, no other games give me my hyper shooty fix, i look at cod like actionquake - even CS is too slow for me now days.

sure it wasn't the aspect ratio/res that gave you the issues? mine was set to the wrong one for my monitor when I first loaded it up and it looked s***.

yeah that shouldn't be a problem unless you are 12.
