Just prior to the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Elite development studio, Beachhead Studios' Chacko Sonny, told gamers the PC version of new service would not make a day-one release alongside the game, citing the need to "ensure a safe PC environment" as one of the driving factors in the delay but that they are "as committed as ever to the PC" and were "working [their] butts off" to make it happen.

However, a recent tweet from the official Elite Twitter feed might sell that goal short now, leaving many wondering if the service will ever reach the desktop platform.
"We are working towards a universal Elite experience but we cannot guarantee if or when a version will be available for the PC."
This is yet another let-down for MW3 on the PC platform against Battlefield 3, whose Battlelog system is well and truly up and running, though we'd argue that Elite has a lot more depth, even on the free-access level, so it's a shame this might not ever be implemented.

Is anyone playing Modern Warfare 3 on PC at the moment? How has your multiplayer experience been since launch?

Update: Shacknews is reporting that Activision have come to the rescue and claim the above tweet was erroneous, explaining that "The goal has always been to provide a PC offering for Elite. The timing for that free offering is still being determined, so stay tuned for news on that."

What does Elite do that makes it a deeper experience than whats on offer with Battlelog? I'm not asking cos I'm trying to argue the fact, I just have no idea what Elite actually is or does

It's utter bulls*** that a service like this couldn't be run on PC with enough security and integrity to offer the full features. It should never have been delayed.

The only thing to blame is their s***** peer-hosted ranked server model which makes it far easier for hackers to exploit. If they were running proper ranked dedicated servers and the only people authorised to run ranked servers had the ability to properly detect and police anybody cheating, then it could work just fine.

Nobody to blame but themselves and their poorly planned PC server model.

The only two significant things that I'm aware of are the video sharing features and the subscription component that lets you compete in tournaments etc with some decent prizes in the pool for both tourneys and general leaderboard rewards.

TBH, I really don't think it's that far removed from Battlelog and Halo Waypoint, Blizzard's Battle.net or even what splash damage offer with Brink's battle.brinkthegame.com . It just has a massive dose of Acti marketing hyperbole behind it to try and convince everybody that it's something groundbreaking.

Well, it is Activision and the now reformed Inifinity Ward. They don't give two s**** about PC. Can tell with the amount of hacking going on at the moment, especially with the amount of hacked lobbies I've found.

I was watching a yogcast vid they recorded on release day of MW3. The guys they were playing against (at least two of them) had aimbot hax and were dominating. Naturally it was on pc and on a ranked p2p server.

Awesome security right there.

Myself and a lot of mates of mine pulled out pre-orders. When 20 of us walked into GAME and all canceled it at the same time the manager came out and asked if they had done something wrong but we told him that it was nothing GAME did and told him why...he understood why...

But it's not. Far from it. It will still be the highest selling game this calendar year and enjoyed by millions, just not many of those will be on PC.

Why do enemies suddenly appear on my screen, then I seem to die from 2 bullets.

Then when I watch the replay, I'm clearly out in the open and the opponent fires 8 shots and lands 5. =\

Not even lagging with full green bars.

Anyone else?

Welcome to the P2P network. And Dan, it sold well because it was advertised well, and its the last in the modern warfare franchise. That's not to say a lot of people actually dislike it.

But it is, you see.. MW was the best of the newer series, i still maintain CoD 1 was the best of all of them. But ever since MW it's just been rehash after rehash slowly getting worse and worse until you reach this which is basically the same s*** (SLIGHTLY better graphics) and a subscription based stat tracker... hahahahahahahahah

Yer the game is s***, oh and CoD SP has been s*** since MW, dunno how that review scored it so highly.

I had my doubts about Battlelog, as soon as I saw that they were using a browser to search for servers I was pretty disappointed.
But after using it it i've found it to be pretty good, and I can't actually find many faults with it.

The maps are a clusterf*** of cluttered up campfests. One team just runs around the map in a circle shooting everyone as they spawn, or everyone just finds a cosey spot to sit & wait for the afore mentioned circle runners.

Still glad I didn't buy BF3 though.

PC player here and long term and almost exclusive player of FPS.

With the COD series, I like the first couple and since Cod4 I have played them all a lot. MW3 is the first COD MP game I actually don't find all that much fun. I want to like it but can't.

Jumping straight into it, I pretty soon got reminded of all the things I found frustrating with MW2. The match making, the lag, even hackers at this early stage. Over all though, I just don't find it fun. I can't quite put my finger on it.

To see if I had just been playing too much Battlefield. I had gone pretty heavy back into BC2 after Black Ops and then BF3. I jumped back ointo Black Ops and had a lot of fun. Way more than I did with MW3.

It just lacks something the other CODs had. Even the similarly flawed MW2. I had a lot of fun with that. It's the least played cod game for me and I had close to 200 hours.

My main grips seem to be, it just doesn't feel as quick and responsive as past cod games. The extra latency with match making really makes this apparent. It also doesn't seem as fast paced and fun. Further the maps are not very good. Some are too small, some are too big for the number of players. It's just kind of frustrating.

While BF3 has very frustrating things about it, there's enough good to over shadow it. With MW3 I just get frustrated constantly. It's either boring where you're slowly running around in 3 second bursts looking for people to be killed by a camper. Or you're constantly firing off half/a whole clip at people and then dying. Where a kill cam shows you apparently fired one or two bullets at most. I have fast cable net, so it's not my connection and it even happens when hosting. There's just that latency barrier where your skill and reaction times are neither here nor there.

I liked the single player, although it was short. The MP actually just does nothing for me. As I said first COD i haven't liked, and I really was looking forward to it.

Something else I notice is, so much camping. I want to play COD to run and gun. In some maps you spend most of the time looking for people to shoot, just to be shot by someone camping. Not to mention dolphin diving and bunny hopping is as rampant as ever. That's just players and play styles frustrating me not the game. I just think it encourages that.

Don't be hating on battlelog. Me likey very much, and it's great to see PC innovation for a cross title game rather than a quick clone of the console interface like Skyrim's.

My only gripe is that it's still hard to get 4 friends on the same team and squad due to the limits of squad numbers. Not sure why it's like that?

Oh, that and being f*****g destroyed.
