On Friday, players across PC, PS4, and Xbox One will get access to a special Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Free Trial. Which will give access to the critically acclaimed Battle Royale mode for an entire week of play. From the fast paced and smooth combat to the detailed and fun map, as one part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer package - is this a sign that Blackout is set to go standalone?
Well, on PC and via Battle.net there's a Black Ops 4 Battle Edition that only provides access to the Blackout mode - so this question is aimed more at the PS4 and Xbox One crowd. And based on that precedent we don't see why Activision won't release a similar version digitally via the PlayStation and Xbox storefronts.
We're guessing that this is already happening, as this week the console version got a new update that overhauled the looting interface in addition to other tweaks. With the ongoing popularity of Fortnite and PUBG across all platforms, having the popular Blackout effectively behind a paywall seems ill-advised.
That said, be sure to check out the one week free trial as Blackout is a lot of fun and well worth your time.
