Activision and Slegehammer Games have released a new promotional video for the forthcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, offering a little bit of behind-the-scenes developer insight into the creative process of this year's iteration of their tent-pole shooter franchise.
Sledgehammer Creative Director Bret Robbins explains how they've once again drawn on advice from experienced military personal for further authenticity and to help with the game's near-future sci-fi setting they also contracted so-called futurists as advisers.
Robbins goes on to boast about new storytelling techniques, noting that the cut-scene character animations -- as seen in the trailers featuring Academy Award winning actor Kevin Spacey's likeness -- are now fully rendered from full body motion capture performances.
Having the player step into the boots of different characters to tell a larger cohesive story has always been a key feature of Call of Duty games, that originally set it apart from other titles in the genre. However, even as Grand Theft Auto has found recent success in adopting multiplayer player characters, Advanced Warfare is heading in the other direction and will be telling its tale from the perspective of a single protagonist.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 come November 4th.
