If you're playing Borderlands 3 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One then a free next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is coming. The update will support 4K 60fps on both consoles in addition to, and this is very cool, four-player split screen.

Gearbox is also teasing cross-play between consoles versions, with news on that front expected next year. The next-gen upgrade caps off a stellar first-year in terms of post-launch support for the game, with the most recent (and fourth) bit of campaign DLC titled 'Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck' available now on all platforms.

With the news arriving via the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase, the Borderlands 3 team is also teasing a rather massive add-on coming later in the year offering up a new game-mode and a new skill tree and Action Skill for each Vault Hunter.

For everyone's favourite monotone robot FL4K, the new “Trapper” skill tree "emphasizes shields and survivability" with a Gravity Snare that "tosses enemies up into the air before slamming them back into the ground". And as that interrupts them, it adds a new style of crowd control play to the Vault Hunter.

Dates for the next-gen update or new skill-tree DLC are TBC.
