2K Games and Gearbox Software have just announced that Borderlands 2, their upcoming sequel to the gun slinging, monster touting, four-player cooperative shooter-looter will be shipping with Steamworks integration on PC.

Auto-updating, multiplayer matchmaking support, Steam achievements, Steam Cloud support and ease of access to downloadable content are just a few of the features Borderlands 2 will have to offer with Steamworks, besides the obvious amount of weaponry available in-game.
Borderlands 2 features all-new characters and skills, imaginative and diverse new environments with unique missions and enemies, and more exciting, fun weapons, equipment and loot than ever before. All of these features come together in a story that takes players to the world of Pandora to take down the notorious Handsome Jack and his corrupt Hyperion Corporation as a solo campaign or with up to four cooperative players
Currently the only pre-orders for the game are at the brick and mortar retail stores, however hopefully soon Steam and other digital vendors will be offering their pre-orders.

Borderlands 2 will be available September 18th, 2012 on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360. You can check out the latest trailer below, offering 96.5% more wub wub, or check out our game page for all the latest in news, trailers and screenshots.

agreed. hardly even touched the multiplayer when it came out saying "Please enter your gamespy account". I didn't even know gamespy still existed let alone remember my username and password.

Multiplayer in the original was awesome.

And with Gamespy you didn't even need to own the game to play with others.

Thank god, this was the biggest turn off for me in the first one and most of the reason I never ended up playing much multiplayer. The multiplayer matchmaking and gamespy s*** was f*****g atrocious and then once you actually got into a game, staying in there without something f*****g up or desyncing was just as much of a trial.

Only played this on 360, was the aussie community big for the PC title?

I know on 360 it was very strong, and it's still fairly easy to find games

Don't know what problems you's had with the the first one regarding multiplayer. I had no problem with it at all, both online and LAN, and though I'm all for the steam network intergration, Steam doesnt have a good history when it comes to intergrating LAN. Borderlands is one of those games that I much prefer to play in a social LAN enviornement. TS and gaybo online connections just don't cut it.

Lan using online MM service/invite friends system is trash

I ask the same question to you Lith when it comes to Steam LAN. Works perfect for me, and majority of the time I've got it switched to offline. Though now a days our LAN's have internet access so everyone is online.

I had no problem with the original. I rarely used GameSpy though, My mates and I found that using Hamachi and LAN was more reliable.

What problems ?

Ok ... well when we tried to use Gamespy we found that only 1 person per LAN could join the game.
Sometimes it wouldn't connect at all, and sometimes we could fix that by swapping who started the game sometimes we couldn't.

In the end it was easier to use VPNs and play it as if we were on a lan using exe's that had been cracked.

I guess if you didn't play with mates and just joined randoms you probably thought it was fine.

I wonder how much $team charge for integration of this level though?
