For those still not sure on what exactly Diablo III is, Blizzard has today revealed a new trailer titled "What is Diablo III?" which gives players an inside look at what to expect in the upcoming hack-and-slash title.
Diablo III is an action role-playing game that takes place on Sanctuary, a dark fantasy world.
You play a hero who engages in fast-paced combat that tests your reflexes and rewards tactical decisions. As you slay hordes of monsters and challenging bosses, you grow in experience and ability, learning new skills and acquiring items of incredible power.
Check out the trailer below (HD over here) for a sneak peak into what Diablo III is really about. If you haven't yet, can also check out our recent interview with Lead Designer Jay Wilson on everything you could possibly want to know.
The game looks great at the standard zoom, but the moment they zoom in and I see the low-poly characters it just reminds me of WoW and I wince at the cartoonish look that takes away the 'evil' feel that Diablo was known for. Would prefer high-quality sprites any day, or at the very least some higher poly-count models - this isn't 2004, PCs can handle heaps of polygons ...

D2 was terrible graphics for its time aswell.....didnt stop it being once of the greatest games of all time. Gameplay FTW

You'll find they did this on purpose. Long story short; as it is now, the monsters 'pop' and are way more visible, the game has an oil painting look to it rather than a cartoon feel. If you've played the beta and you still feel it's cartoonish, then I'll accept your opinion.

I normally like your posts, but you're vague here. Not all PCs are the same. Not all PCs can run this game with four players in an intense fight at low detail - let alone full detail - with playable FPS.
The game for me at least, looks freaking awesome and I don't stop to zoom in at all. I'm too busy enjoying the wicked gameplay and hacking and slashing monsters.

Hmm? I'm saying when you're zoomed in it'd be nice having more detail via LOD or something, so that you can see more character detail. But anyway even in an intense battle, if you were to zoom in then obviously there would be less characters fitting the frame to render, and you could afford more polygons per character.
Also not everyone is running 5+ year old PCs, which is the point of graphics options in most [non-console-port] games to give you flexibility based on what hardware you have. At the moment the limit is rather low esp w.r.t poly-count so even if you had a capable machine you're still held back.
I've got the game, and am looking forward to playing the final thing - just saying I'm not a fan of the WoW-type graphics approach (polygon and lighting styles) which actually began its roots in WC3.
I am looking forward to this more so then anyone, I never played the Beta, I haven't watched Videos or seen screenies it's going to be so f***en exciting especially since I've been playing D2 the last month.
public service announcement, although I'm not sure if this affects us -
We became aware of an issue affecting the previously available German and EU English versions of the digital install downloader for Diablo III, which would not download all the necessary files. If you've pre-downloaded the digital version of the game in these languages before 10:00 AM CEST (9:00 AM GMT) on Saturday May 12, you must obtain the new downloaders to be able to install properly once the game is released on May 15. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask that you please let friends and acquaintances know so they can begin downloading the working installer that's now available.
