Sony and Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream have released another big new taste of the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive BEYOND: Two Souls.
Out of the Tribeca Film Festival of all places, comes a new sizzle trailer, and a hefty 35 minute gameplay feature, which between them, should leave viewers with a solid understanding on what kind of game to expect.
BEYOND: Two Souls takes you on a thrilling journey across the globe as you play out the remarkable life of Jodie Holmes.
Born with a connection to a mysterious entity with incredible powers, Jodie was different. In an adventure spanning 15 years of her life, your actions will determine Jodie's fate as she faces extraordinary challenges, danger, and heartwrenching loss on a journey to discover the truth of who she is. Beyond promises an emotionally-charged journey unlike any video game before.
Watch the trailer and extended gameplay footage (spoilers obviously) embedded below.
Beyond: Two Souls is due on PlayStation 3 on October 8th 2013.
Yeah... I like my "games" to have actual gameplay mechanics rather than what appears to be a massive quicktime event with button prompts. Get some of that facial animation tech into some real games.
I do recall that previous gameplay video, and I do recall a lot of quicktime-esque moments. I get the impression that this game is trying to be more a movie than a game.
'Interactive story-telling' is Quantic Dream's niche. They focus heavily on story, great art, character development and cinematic techniques. I think they have some innovative game mechanics but if you are s 'twitch' gamer, you'll hate their games. If you love a good adventure/story, you'll like it.
Is this the first time that actor's names are on the cover of a video game? Wonder if this will catch on... 5 years from now will we have a Call of Duty starring Jason Statham?
Ahh I get it now. So this is the evolution of the adventure game genre.
I guess so, but their previous game, Heavy Rain, is pretty much hands down the best storytelling I've ever seen done in a game, bar none. So yeah, I'm pretty keen for this one.
