Back in 2010, yeah we've been around these parts for a while, we posted a news article with the headline Beyond Good and Evil 2 Still in Development. And now, in 2021 we've got the very similar Beyond Good and Evil 2 is Apparently Still in Development. According to the latest Ubisoftfinancial reportBeyond Good and Evil 2 development is progressing well.
That said, the last time we saw the game proper was back in 2018... after being re-announced back in 2017. There was a playable beta on the cards for 2019 too. And what we saw was promising, but very early on.
And then last year BG&E creator Michel Ansel decided to move on from developing videogames entirely, like he went to work in a wildlife sanctuary. Which might say something about this game's development. Anyway, that put the sequel's release into question.
As per today's financials, where in addition to word that "net bookings" are up, under the "Expanding premium offering over the coming years" section there's this.
"Revival of fan-favorite franchise with Beyond Good and Evil 2".
But, there's no release date or release window. Which means it's still years away. The report also mentions the other missing in action Ubisoft joint, Skull & Bones, as also still in development. But that's an ancient-link-packed story for another day.
Which will come first? Who knows. Either way, here's to our upcoming 2030 headline:
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is Still in Development, Coming to Your BrainPod this 'Amazon Facebook Presents the Month of December'.
