Making sense of the teaser images seen yesterday, Bethesda has formally announced Wolfenstein: The New Order, a new first person shooter for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and "next generation consoles" due in Q4 2013.

GameSpot appears to have exclusive media reveal duties this time around, with an introductory article setting the scene:
The New Order is set in 1960 after the Nazis won World War II. Gamers play as the familiar American war hero B.J. Blazkowicz and are tasked with launching an "impossible counter-offensive" against the Nazi powers that have taken over the world.

Set in Europe, The New Order will have players infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling legions of enemies, while taking control of "super weapons" that the Nazis have used to dominate earth--"and beyond," Bethesda teased.
The New Order is being developed by Sweden-based MachineGames --a studio founded in 2009 by Chronicles of Riddick, and The Darkness developers Starbreeze Studios.

We had previously known that MachineGames was working on a new title built on the id Tech 5 engine, last seen in id Software's RAGE, so although not officially confirmed yet, it's likely that Wolfenstein is that game, and that we can safely expect an impressive level of graphic fidelity when the first gameplay footage arrives.

Until then, check out the teasery debut trailer below.

Wait, is that a direct battlestar tie in?.. Cylon looking robots, battlestar music, and the battlestar theme of repeating histories?

Wow, the concept actually looks really cool!

I suppose it's too much to ask to expect this game to rekindle the awesomeness that was RtCW multiplayer.

The song "Along the Watchtower" is older than battlestar...

For some reason I thought that was the battlestar rendition. Turns out it wasn't.

I always thought hendrix did the original but turns out it's dylan's. jimi released his cover 6months later that went top 20 and is the version rolling stone voted 47th best of all time.

but yeah, even with no gameplay and no apparent connection to wolfenstein, awesome trailer!
