Bethesda's Todd Howard was a recent guest on the Lex Fridman podcast, where the director of Skyrim and Fallout 3, and the upcoming Starfield talked at length about his career, games, and so much more. One topic covered was the upcoming Indiana Jones game from Bethesda and Wolfenstein developer Machine Games.

We learn that Raiders of the Lost Ark is his favourite movie of all time and that he pitched the game idea to George Lucas back in 2009. "Raiders is still my favourite movie of all time, no debate, best movie ever," said Todd Howard. "I saw it when I was younger and I believed it, and when they found this Ark I couldn't believe they'd found it."

As for the pitch, Skyrim development was in full swing and he didn't have the team to work on it at the time. Plus LucasArts wanted to publish, and potentially be in control of development. As for Machine Games, Todd Howard sees the studio as "the perfect fit for this game with storytelling and how to record it", adding that the project and idea remain the same. "A definite love letter to Indiana Jones".

"I mean you can talk about the world of Indiana Jones but it's him, it's the character," adds Todd Howard. "I would just say it is a mashup, it is unique, it isn't one thing intentionally. So it does a lot of different things that we've wanted to do in a game. It's a unique game."

And with that Todd Howard's day-to-day involves working on both Starfield and Indiana Jones.
