As part of a new development update for Battlefield 2042 we learn that the Tarkov-style Hazard Mode is being wound down with DICE "no longer actively developing new experiences or content for the mode". It will remain in game, as is, with fixes here and there, as the team focuses on Maps, Experiences & Modes, Core Gameplay, and New Content.

The latter will arrive as part of the first Season, which will be revealed in full soon. In terms of maps we do get a look at the new Kaleidoscope, which presents a massive improvement visually. The addition of new cover and defensive points and other map changes ramp up the gritty feel, making it all look a lot more, well, Battlefield.

The video above also showcases an early look at changes coming to Renewal, hinting at much more destruction and cover. The addition of sandbags and debris definitely help soften the clinical barren look and feel of Battlefield 2042 maps. Kaleidoscope 2.0 is set to arrive in Season 1 next month.

DICE notes that even though 128-player Conquest will remain (Breakthrough is changing to 64-player only) new maps will be designed with this new philosophy of more interaction and variety - and will end up being smaller than the launch maps in terms of landmass.

In other news, 32-player Rush will become a staple part of Season 1 with Battlefield Portal maps joining the rotations in All-Out Warfare. And finally, we also get word that Specialists are being redesigned, visually, to look grittier with the focus shifting to a military-style presentation for all aspects including cosmetics and voice-acting. Plus, animations are being overhauled.

As per the new roadmap below, there's some major changes coming to Battlefield 2042. Including a performance overhaul for PC players.

Head here for the full update.
