Like the addition of a new map set in the Canadian Rockies called Exposure, and from a pure visual standpoint it’s a very warm and welcoming departure from the somewhat cold and sterile maps seen in the launch edition of Battlefield 2042. And in terms of those maps, the revamped Kaleidoscope will now launch in August. As for Battlefield 2042 – Season 1: Zero Hour, the first season begins on June 9.
Where the game will also get a brand-new Specialist in the form of Ewelina Lis - an armour and anti-vehicle specialist.
As vehicle killer expert Ewelina Lis joins the No-Pats, airborne enemies need to be on their toes. Use her new rocket launcher to even the odds against the enemy with player-guided projectiles and the Armor Hunter trait to get invaluable intel on damaged vehicles.
As per the intro, the new map Exposure looks very cool, which is featured heavily in the Season 1 trailer below. Interestingly all future maps from Season 2 onward will only be designed and support 64-players - which makes Exposure the first and last to support 128-players.
Reach greater heights with next-gen stealth helicopters or counter from
the ground on a new mountainous map – Exposure – set in the Canadian Rockies. As you traverse the extreme vertical terrain of the Canadian Rockies, utilize hi-tech gear like the Ghostmaker R10 Crossbow and the BSV-M Marksman Rifle to lead your squad to victory.
Where we also get to see the new vehicles and weapons, specifically the new RAH-68 Huron and YG-99 Hannibal Gunships - helicopters if you will. On the other end of the high-tech scale there’s the addition of a crossbow, which admittedly does look cool. Season 1 also sees the introduction of the first Battle Pass which will include 100 free tiers of unlocks with all Weapons and Vehicles limited to this tier. The Premium Tier will feature Skins, BFC,
Player Cards, Weapon Charms, Takedowns, and more.
Season 1: Zero Hour marks the first season of content for Battlefield 2042, which was delayed whilst developer DICE (and other EA studios) worked hard to correct course from the game’s disastrous launch late last year. Something that will continue for quite some time too, with Season 2 set to include an overhauled Renewal map and Specialists set to get a full visual and audio make-over to make them more gritty. Animation, weapons, and even PC performance updates are also coming.
It remains to be seen if Season 1 reinvigorates Battlefield 2042 (or is that 'vigorates') in the eyes of players. Even in the best-case scenario winning back trust is going to be hard when the game was simply unfinished and released in a very rough state. With only Steam data to go on, Battlefield 2042 player activity has been fairly consistent over the last couple of months as DICE brought things like an actual scoreboard and voice chat to the game. Though 'consistent' here is a peak-player count sitting at around 4-thousand or so.
