With their captain hospitalised just hours before boarding the plane to Rio de Janeiro where the Season 8 Invitational would be taking place at Jeunesse Arena in the Olympic Park, Aussie Rainbow Six Siege team FNATIC caused a massive upset, defeating North America's Evil Geniuses, breaking into the top four of an international competition for the first time.
Replacing the team's captain, Etienne “Magnet” Rousseau, FNATIC's coach and manager, Jayden “Dizzle” Saunders, helped the Aussies take on the higher seeded Evil Geniuses winning 2-0 (6-3, 6-4). A win that would see them break into the top four, alongside Japan's NORA-Rengo, marking the first time two teams from APAC have made the semi finals in an international competition.
Despite the mammoth effort however, both teams fell in the semis to G2 Esports and FaZe Clan, with G2 going on to win the whole thing.
